THIS IS NOT MY USUAL NECK OF THE WOODS: BUT ALL THAT COULD CHANGE. HIS & HERS HAD AN INVITE TO TRY OUT THE EARLY EVENING MENU AT A RESTAURANT THAT SPECIALISES IN PAN ASIAN FOOD, AND OFFERS A MENU WITH GREAT CHOICE. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL EVENING FOR A DRIVE OUT OF THE CITY, AND THE CENTRE OF FORMBY IS A GREEN OASIS.

The restaurant is unique: the décor has the wow factor. The murals, which are stunningly beautiful, were specially commissioned by a local artist, and reflect the cultural influences that bring together a cuisine from China, Thailand, Japan and Malaysia. We were warmly welcomed by the Manager and one of the partners, and learnt a little about the cuisine and the philosophy behind the venture. The food is prepared using authentic and traditional recipes.

We settled on three small plates each, which was just one of the options available. I chose: salt & pepper ribs, which were spicy, sticky and sumptuous,: Thai fish cakes, which were made to a traditional recipe using squid as one of the ingredients and then speedily pan fried to retain all the flavour, were my favourites. My final choice was prawns, which were served with a dipping sauce, and quite delicious. My companion chose Pad Thai with chicken, which she loved: Gyoza, Japanese pan fried pork and vegetable dumplings with soy, which had a piquant, well balanced flavour, and chicken bamboo skewers, grilled over charcoal, which gave the chicken a great ‘barbecued’ taste, and peanut sauce to complete the dish. The attention to detail is impressive: and it is no accident that suay means beautiful.

There are coconut and lime cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake on the dessert menu, which is all you need to know. It was an experience like no other: and we can’t wait to go back. And there are takeaway menu options too!
