WHILE 2016 HAS BEEN CONSIDERED BY MANY TO ONE BE OF THE WORST YEARS IN GENERATIONS, FOR ONE FAMILY IT HAS PROVEN TO BE A VERY SUCCESSFUL ONE. THE BECKHAM FAMILY IS NOW A UNIFIED BRAND WITH MEMBERS OF THE FAMILY SUCCEEDING IN MULTIPLE AREAS. WE LOOK AT HOW THE MEMBERS OF THE BECKHAM FAMILY CONTRIBUTED IN 2016 TO CREATE A FAMILY NAME THAT IS RECOGNISABLE WORLDWIDE.
Cruz Beckham
The 11-year old son of David and Victoria has ended the year with his own Christmas song “If Every Day was Christmas”. News of the young singer generated lots of media hype and attention with Piers Morgan accusing the Beckhams of exploiting their son. The Independent reported that David Beckham defended his son on Good Morning America by reminding the audience that all proceeds from the song would go to the charity Make Some Noise.
Brooklyn Beckham
The savvy social media teenage has found that having famous parents has made him very attractive to numerous brands. The BBC claim that Brooklyn is now one of the brand ambassadors of the Honor 8 smartphone by Huawei. Earlier in the year Brooklyn was employed by Burberry to photograph their latest fragrance adverts. The young Beckham has also been forging a career in front of the camera as model.
Victoria Beckham
Victoria Beckham’s fashion career has grown to the point that it is easy to forget that she was once part of Britain’s biggest girl band. This year her range was a big hit at the New York Fashion show. The Guardian wrote “the status of the Beckham show as one of the established must-sees on the fashion week schedule is quite a turn-up for the books, when you consider the scepticism with which the former pop star’s fashion career was initially greeted.” The Victoria Beckham line has become one of the most sought after British brands in female fashion.
David Beckham
2016 once again saw David Beckham’s global fame and reach increase. Since retiring from football in 2013 the football star has conquered many different avenues to become the second richest retired sportsman in the world. Like Victoria, David has branched out into fashion and worked in partnership with Kent & Curwen, Belstaff, and H&M. While Victoria has stayed out of the limelight, David’s success has come with being at the forefront of his clothing lines. The best example of this was his second H&M advert with Kevin Hart that played out like a Hollywood buddy movie with Beckham as the straight man to Kevin Hart’s larger than life character.
Next year Beckham will branch out even further with His & Hers Mag reporting that he had created a skin care range with Biotherm Homme. 2017 could also see Beckham return to his football roots as the owner of a Miami football club. This December the Miami Herald wrote that Beckham’s new team is hoping to become the 24th team in the Major League Soccer. Beckham was a huge star in America when he moved to LA Galaxy in 2007. Adrian North writing for football site Betfair believes that Beckham is the reason that the profile of football in the USA has risen to an international level attracting players such as Steven Gerrard.
The Beckham family have become one of Britain’s biggest exports and despite criticism from every sector of the media the family is continuing to grow and succeed. There is no doubt 2017 will also be the year of the Beckhams.
