His & Hers had spent a fun evening at Albert’s Schloss when it first opened in Liverpool. We enjoyed fish and chips and great cocktails with live entertainment. We were quite excited to be going back to sample the breakfast menu.

Cook Haus offers an impressive service that starts at 9am with a breakfast menu and finishes at 10pm with the last orders for dinner. The staff seem to enjoy the challenge. Albert’s Schloss is obviously a fun place to work. The breakfast setting is relaxed. Americans use the expressions: ‘over easy’ and ‘sunny side up’, to describe fried eggs, which suit this occasion perfectly. It is an art to create such contentment.

Breakfast is served from 9am until midday, Monday to Sunday. The sunshine seemed to follow us inside. The weekend starts here. Albert’s Schloss Liverpool has a party atmosphere in the evenings. There is a stupendous bar and live music in a beautiful, lively open space that lifts the spirits. To be fair guests lift the spirits too, possibly in cocktail form.

Breakfast is a gentler affair. For us Saturday was a time to ease out the wrinkles of the working week. The staff are attentive and friendly. Chatting to the staff established that they love their work in a venue they never find boring.

Kroissant Royale

The breakfast menu offers a wealth of choice. Pancake Haus, with Maple bacon, Burford brown eggs, fluffy pancake and Maple syrup was tempting. Kroissant Royale comes with either Bratwurst (German pork sausage, fried or grilled), or smoked back bacon or Moving Mountains sausage. Another option is smoked salmon and Hollandaise sauce. Sourdough is in there as are Turkish eggs with garlic yoghurt.

I opted for the Veggie Cook Haus breakfast. It included Moving Mountains sausage (100% plant based), fried egg, smashed avocado, roasted Portobello mushroom and hash brown. The avocado had a richly piquant flavour (essence of avocado) and the giant mushroom was yummy. The whole was beautifully balanced. The coffee is good. The choice of beverages is massive, including Earl Grey, Moroccan mint tea and hot schokolade.

If you have a meeting in the city, this is a perfect way to start the day. We recommend it as a great way to ease into the weekend. It is going to take a while to work through the whole breakfast menu, but with Bank Holidays in the mix, we can make it happen in a leisurely fashion.

Cook Haus breakfast (or brunch) comes highly recommended.
