ONE OF HIS & HERS MAGAZINE’S FAVOURITE BRANDS, BURT’S BEES, IS ON A MISSION TO HELP SAFEGUARD OUR BEES.
It turns out bees do more than most people realise—for such small, short-lived creatures, they do a lot of heavy lifting to keep life on earth in balance. They make 1/3 of our nutritious fruits and vegetables possible, and they function as a buzzing alarm system for our planet’s ecosystem.
Basically, bees are magical fuzzy little flower-hopping life-bringers. And guess what? Bees are in trouble. And that’s why Burt’s Bees® is getting involved to help to #BringBackTheBees:
Natural beauty brand Burt’s Bees® has partnered with international supermodel Winnie Harlow to get to the heart of the issue through a video short, that presents a stark vision of a world without bees. The video captures a picturesque flower shop, set up by the brand, and rigged with trickery to surprise unsuspecting shoppers. As the florist creates bouquets, the flowers and plants in the shop, start to disappear, turning the store into a stark empty space time and time again, for shoppers. The final denouement reveals the vision of a world without bees.
Winnie said “The shop really brought home the message to me. I wondered what was going on when all the flowers started to disappearing. I’m excited to be working with Burt’s Bees on such an important campaign; bees do so much more than we may realise.
“We rely on them for one third of our food supply so without them we wouldn’t be here. Their rapid decline is something that simply can’t be ignored”
Burt’s Bees is getting involved to #BringBackTheBees, raising awareness and also helping to rebuild nourishing habitats for bees. With your help, Burt’s Bees®, in association with the British Beekeepers Association and its Adopt a Beehive scheme, are pledging to plant wild flower seeds across the UK to ensure our fuzzy little friends continue to thrive.
How you can do your bit to help save the bees:
1. Burt’s Bees favourite Coconut & Pear Lip Balm has had a spring make-over. For every limited edition pack sold, 5,000 bee friendly wild flower seeds will be planted in selected areas in the UK, offering nearby bees a nutritious and much-needed feast.
2. In addition, getting social will help. A further 5,000 bee-friendly wild flower seeds will also be planted for every #SelflessSelfie taken. Simply head to ‘Bring Back the Bees’ and upload a selfie. Encourage friends to do the same, by sharing across Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or Snapchat using the hashtags #SelflessSelfie and #BringBackTheBees.
3. You can also do you bit at home. Planting a good selection of wild flowers in your garden, on your balcony or window box will attract pollinators and help our ecosystem to bloom.
