shower problems

When you’re getting ready in the morning, a perfect cup of tea or coffee and a shower at the ideal temperature are two of the things that tend to start your day off on the right note. This is why you’re unlikely to hear much from the His & Hers team until the kettle’s been brewed and caffeine savoured!

We also take creating the perfect shower set-up pretty seriously, because frankly life’s too short to start the day shivering under a drizzle of lukewarm water (also, no amount of persuasion about the benefits of ice cold showers is going to convert us. We’ll take a nice aromatic shower gel and lovely hot water to ease us into the day every time!)

Thankfully, creating the perfect tea and coffee set-up is pretty straightforward (although we do go a bit overboard with back-up tea and milk supplies to avoid the nightmare of starting the working day without a proper brew). But getting your shower just-so can take a bit more planning. So, His & Hers is sharing four of the most common shower problems and how to fix them.

Your shower door seal needs replacing

Admittedly, His & Hers lived with this issue for far too long (ahem through laziness), resulting in having to sacrifice clean towels to soak up water on the bathroom floor daily. This ended up taking far longer than going to a site like Byretech and ordering a replacement shower door seal in the first place would have.

An unexpected dip in water pressure

This seems like one of those issues that’ll turn out to be fiddly and expensive and will involve a plumber making that whistling noise between their teeth that never bodes well in terms of how big their bill will be. However, before you call in the professionals, it could be worth giving your shower head a really good clean, because it turns out that the build-up of limescale can play a surprisingly large role in determining how powerful your shower feels.

A badly designed or outdated shower head

If your shower head is old or corroded, it could be hampering your enjoyment of your shower. If this is the case, it’s worth shopping around to see whether you can simply fit a new shower head to your existing shower, providing a nice low cost option for updating the style and effectiveness of your shower.

Poor ventilation

No matter how good your shower itself is, you’ll want to manage the humidity in your bathroom. If your bathroom doesn’t have a window, ensure that you have a good ventilation system. Also, although it’s really tempting to store skincare in the bathroom, His & Hers’ advice is to set up storage space for skincare and cosmetics in the bedroom instead. The lower temperature and humidity will ensure that they last for as long as possible and you’re less likely to get water on any of your heartbreakingly expensive make-up bag essentials this way!
