The prospect of having a place to complete home workouts without the need to travel or exercise in front of others is very appealing. Let’s face it; avoiding the monthly family gym membership is a step in the right direction too.  

However, it’s not all about investing in the right treadmill and free weight sets. Creating positive surroundings for your workouts is equally important. Here’s how to do it.

Think About Air Quality 

The garden gym will be a lot smaller than a commercial gym. As such, it can get very hot, very quickly. While a little warmth can help you sweat more, too much heat will discourage you from workouts.    

If you are building a garden building from scratch, it may be worth investing in sliding glass doors. At the very least, you should install a good A/C system to ensure that the space remains comfortable at all times. On a similar note, you want to ensure that it stays warm in winter.  

In addition to boosting the comfort, it’ll help you control the body odour smells.  

Think About The Practicalities 

When building your gym, it’s easy to think solely about the equipment that you’ll use. A great gym should include a variety of practical features that will improve workout productivity and enjoyment.  

A wall mirror can be particularly important for weight lifting and stretches as you’ll want to keep the right form. Meanwhile, investing in a water cooler can be very useful as you need to stay hydrated at all times. Popping back and forth to the kitchen isn’t ideal.  

Building a space that replicates the commercial gym feelings in this way is key.

Think About Your Motivation   

Motivation is a major problem for many gym-goers. In fact, removing the mental obstacles is one of the main reasons for building a home gym in the first place. With this in mind, it’s vital that you go the extra mile to stay motivated.  

Simple additions can make a big impact. Music is hugely inspirational. Modern DAB radios that can also use Bluetooth for streaming are ideal. This way, you can listen to music without getting tripped up by wires or feeling restricted in any way.    

You can always invest in wireless headphones for evening workouts – for the sake of the neighbours.  

Think About The Security 

It’s a harsh reality, but choosing this building rather than a part of the main home does put your gym at risk. OK, nobody is going to suddenly pick up your treadmill and walk out with it. However, there are still a number of valuables that could be at risk.  

Investing in security items like cameras is a great idea while the key locks need to be of the highest standard too. However, simple habits like pulling the blinds down can help too. Leaving the items on display only makes them more tempting.    

Most importantly, you should keep the biggest valuables inside the home.
