If you’ve got a wedding coming up, no matter if it’s a couple months or a year away, you’re going to be stressing out about a few things. From what you want to wear to how many bridesmaids you’ll need to what your Dad might say during the speech, so many worries are floating around your head right now! And one of the biggest probably regards what you’re going to serve up at the reception, but we’ve got a few tips that might just soothe your menu worries.

Double Check Intolerances First
Go through your guest list – is there anyone there who can’t eat peanuts, or walnuts, or dairy, or gluten, or celery, etc.,? Because you’ll want to know about these intolerances before you do anything else. So once people have RSVPed, call them up and ask about what foods they can and can’t eat. You can ask them to write these details in, but just double check on them too; you can never be sure if someone will have forgotten to write something in, and sometimes handwriting can be pretty illegible!
Don’t Go Too Sophisticated
Sophisticated wedding menus are so last century! If you like chicken wings and salt and pepper chips, put them on the menu! The more unpretentious you are, the more you’re going to like your wedding menu, and so will the guests. You can mix and match with more ‘highbrow foods’, but offer a variety. There need to be plates people recognise, as well as a moving buffet they won’t be shy to come back to. And if you’re worried about raised eyebrows on the day, remember one thing: this is your wedding, you get to eat what you like!
Provide Alcohol Free Options
Not everyone is going to want to drink at the wedding, and let’s be honest, it’s not as fun as it once was to watch all your loved ones drunkenly dance around! Indeed, you might be teetotal yourself, or certain people in the bridal party are, and you’d like to offer more than just wine and champagne. In this case, just like with the food, look into offering alcohol-like beverages; Citizen Spritz is a good fit here, but provide as much of a range as you can. The more drinks on offer alongside the food, the happier your guests will be.
Think About How You Want to Eat
Are you going to be sitting down? Or do you want to move and dance as you chow down on the catering? Depending on the answer, you’ll have to design your menu around the movement. If it’s a sit-down meal, it’s far easier to serve up big, fancy plates. But if you’re planning to keep people on their feet, you’ll want to keep the menu easy to eat, and as minimally messy as possible. No one wants to stain their outfit, especially if it’s rented.
The perfect wedding menu feels like you. Keep that in mind as you plan!
