As we start emerging from lock-down, in a thoughtful and considered way, the therapy in retail therapy takes on a whole new character. I can remember shopping for an outfit for the Northern Design Awards, and stumbling upon the perfect dress. It was definitely a moment to celebrate. And we have been waiting for the gradual transformation into the new nearly normal, and there is nothing like bagging a bargain to add a little zest to your life.

Metquarter welcomed back shoppers on Monday 15th June. A selection of shops in the centre reopened with new carefully considered measures in place.
Metquarter has unveiled the steps to ensure the centre is ready to safely welcome back visitors. The centre is confident the measures in place will ensure everyone has an enjoyable and safe experience in the centre.
Visual cues have been placed on the floor reminding everyone to maintain a 2m distance between each other. A one-way system has been put in place, to make it easier and to protect people as they enter and exit. Customer Service officers will be on patrol throughout to ensure the new safety measures are followed.
An enhanced cleaning regime has also been introduced with the regular cleaning of all key customer touch points in the centre. Hand sanitising stations have also been installed at the entry and exit points, that all customers are encouraged to use.
New opening times have been announced, with the centre opening 9.30am–6pm Monday to Saturday and 1pm–5pm on Sunday. Capacity within the centre will be closely monitored, with a queuing system being put in place should it be needed.
All staff who are on site have been provided with PPE and will be following strict guidelines.
Jennina O’Neill, centre manager at Metquarter, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to welcome shoppers back to the Metquarter from Monday and we’ve been busy ensuring the centre is ‘Covid secure’. The health and well-being of our visitors and tenants remains our number one priority and we’re confident that everyone will be able to enjoy shopping with us once again. Although the shopping experience will feel different, we’re excited to be able to get back to some normality and offer people the chance to indulge in some retail therapy.”
