Mother’s Day celebrations remembered

His & Hers usually run a Mother’s Day feature. This one is a little unusual. We are recalling great memories, of this year and past years with a nod to the restaurants that have made the day really special for this family over the years.

Feature by Jean Hill

Gusto in Liverpool has been the go to place for celebration days. It is a beautiful venue, with a stunning view of the Royal Albert Dock, with added magical fairy lights in the evening. It is an epic building, that somehow manages to facilitate intimate dining as well as larger parties. Gusto delivers a wide-ranging fine Italian menu. Their fish dishes are superb and everything is served with a smile. There is often Crème Brulée on the dessert menu and I can generally resist temptation, but not that particular one.

Gusto extended terrace

There are great family restaurants in the city of Liverpool. This year we have enjoyed Spanish treats at Tapas Revolution; in a really friendly, fun environment. Bouchon has great French chic and we loved the food, particularly the chicken. We loved the fabulous outside terrace space.

The Opera Grill in Chester was a magical evening in their ‘Garden Terrace’ space. The food is quite something. Again the fish is beautifully cooked. The Garden Terrace is protected from the elements, bright and airy with walls enveloped in floral decorations.

The Olive Tree

This year, we visited the Olive Tree in New Brighton. This is a beautiful setting and the owners love what they do and it shows. Their Sunday roasts are something very special indeed. The lamb is ridiculously tender with that lovely slightly sweet taste and zing of freshness. The Yorkshire puddings rise to the occasion with great flavour. The cheesecake with passion fruit definitely had the wow factor, both for taste and presentation. We are already booked in again for next Sunday!
