WE STEPPED INTO LIV ORGANIC & NATURAL FOOD MARKET AND DISCOVERED SO MUCH MORE. WE LUNCHED IN THE TOTALLY RELAXING EATERY. WE BROWSED BODY & HOME, WHERE NATURAL BEAUTY PRODUCTS ARE TO BE FOUND. WE ATE FLAVOURSOME PIZZA AND SAMPLED SOME DELIGHTS FROM THE NEWLY OPENED PASTA BAR.

Words: Jean Hill

It was a thoroughly enjoyable lunch at LIV, with a difference. We discovered the taste of the Tuscan countryside in the heart of Liverpool.  La Casa Della Pasta is all about organic pasta made and cooked in store. My particular favourite was mushroom ravioli with Mascarpone cheese and walnuts A match made in heaven. The Seafood Tagliolini comes with tomato saffron, squid, prawns and mussels. Both pasta and pizza menus include vegan options. The organic pasta is made freshly every day. The four cheese and walnut risotto is calling me back.

The pizza comes in many different guises, most intriguing with a charcoal base with herbs, cheese and red cabbage. There is always a vegan pizza option. LIV embraces that feel good factor: healthier foods, with a higher level of vitamins and nutrients. Practically and environmentally, it doesn’t cost the earth. The ‘food to go’ packaging is either recyclable, biodegradable, compostable or reusable. Part of the philosophy is to try and avoid food wastage and make a positive contribution to the community.

A new discovery awaited around every corner. The juice menu give a wealth of choice. Beetroot latte with dates sounded too good not to try. For those with a sweet tooth there are cakes in the mix. The carrot cake is made with cashew nuts, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, vanilla bean and dates. A combination to dazzle.

The Food Market is an emporium of delights that even include sweets, which I can convince myself are ‘totally healthy’! Feel on safer ground with the organic charcoal sourdough loaf, which is definitely a healthy option. Sourdough is found to reduce bloating and be easier to digest, than other types of commercial bread.

Thank you to Gill Torres who was a perfect host, and introduced me to some new concepts. Under one roof you can find beauty without cruelty, buy wholesome food, and enjoy a sociable lunch. We will definitely be back for more.
