HIS & HERS MAGAZINE FOOD REVIEWS MEAN WE GET TO SEE SOME AMAZING PLACES, AND SHARE GREAT EXPERIENCES. RELISH IS LIKE THE TARDIS, IN A SOMEWHAT DIFFERENT WAY, IT’S COMPACT IN SIZE, BUT IT REVEALS A WEALTH OF WONDERFUL FOOD.
Relish is a very chic café in Rose Lane, Mossley Hill. The first surprise was the menu: it wouldn’t look out of place in a 5 star hotel restaurant. Relish has rebranded: it boasts beautiful décor in relaxing tones, great posters and art work, and I love the booths that are elegant, cosy and comfortable. But I need to focus on the menu: ‘Lite Bites’ include home-made duck spring rolls and mini Asian sea-bass with avocado & pomegranate; Club Sandwiches include: tuna melt and grilled halloumi, followed by Mains that range from bacon and cheese burger, to Feta and tomato tartlet, to pan-fried sea-bass. Then there’s the All Day Breakfast: where you can ‘create your own feast’ from a dizzying array of options. My own personal favourite is Eggs Royale: 2 poached eggs, smoked salmon & toasted muffin. Breakfast options are popular with students who appreciate great value.
Whilst pondering on the range of choices: mains arrived. The sea bass was beautifully fresh, flaky, with great taste; the mains were substantial, yet we were persuaded to try a selection from the afternoon tea/desserts menu. The strawberry cheese-cake was delicious, great texture, gorgeous flavour, and my companion loved the Eton mess, which had all the right elements, including meringue crispy and sticky on the outside, meltingly soft inside: a memorable experience.
Sunday roasts can be had at £9.99 for adults, and £5.95 for children, with veggie and gluten free options. The meat option is chicken. It’s a great place to relax on a Sunday, and the food will not disappoint. Relish does outside catering, for functions in the wider area, that includes The Palm House and St George’s Hall.
