Slim’s is the latest restaurant to open on Bold Street. Owned by Graffiti Spirits Group, Slim’s intent is to adopt the same flair, service, and quality of food and drinks that the group’s other venues are known for. The décor is functional, yet elegant. There is clean, white, painted wood and pristine white tiles, and a fine mural, that is intricate and charming.

Slim’s will serve up stacked burgers such as cheeseburger, crispy chicken burger, Mac and cheese burger, and halloumi burger We tried Slim’s famous Lo Pan Fries – topped with salt and pepper, siracha sauce, spring onion and fresh chillis. They are fabulous, and a delicious spicy sauce adds a kick to great fries. There will also be dishes served up straight from the smoker: such as BBQ St Louis pork rib, and slow-cooked specials. Other menu staples include roast dinners, that recently won a Food Porn award. Special brunch dishes are available every Saturday and Sunday.

Slim’s ‘mission statement’ would be to cater for diverse tastes, dietary requirements and changing eating habits. This includes distinctive vegetarian and vegan offerings. Dishes include vegan fried chicken – made up of crispy fried seitan, which has that glorious corn flake coating. You can try buffalo cauliflower wings, and a selection of tasty salads. The chicken burgers taste wonderful. The corn ribs, that have a strong barbecue flavour, are sharp, crisp yet succulent, and the sauce dribbles deliciously into your mouth. Job done. Our editor will testify that Salt Dog Slim’s served a mojito, that was simply the best. Once the sun had set she would occasionally wander from her desk, and  make tracks for Slim’s to enjoy a well-deserved treat. Graffiti Spirit source the best spirits, so this is but a small gripe. We totally enjoyed a Jack Daniel’s cocktail: then we tried a Collins vodka and raspberry concoction  ordered from the bar. Somewhat of a damp squid; otherwise we loved everything.

The restaurant has an outdoor terrace area where guests can sit back, relax and enjoy life. In the coming months, Slim’s will also have a downstairs sports bar that will show popular sports channels and games. Graffiti Spirits Group co-founder Matt Farrell commented on the new venue. “Slim’s is a really exciting venue and a must-visit for anyone who loves tasty food. From breakfast through to dinner, the menu has so much choice and we’ve worked really hard…It really does cater for all, including those who are vegan and vegetarian.”

We will be there, in the sports bar, cheering on Liverpool (and Everton). And we will be enjoying the new Slim’s cuisine and cocktails. It’s amazing how footballers’ skills seem to improve after a drink or two. Obviously, achieved by us indulging in the cocktails, not the players.
