NOW THAT THE WEATHER’S GETTING BETTER AND THE EVENINGS ARE GETTING LIGHTER AND BRIGHTER, HERE AT HIS & HERS WE’VE BEEN FINDING IT SO MUCH EASIER TO MAKE TIME FOR REGULAR EXERCISE.
We’ll admit that in the depths of winter, sometimes the urge to make a date with the sofa, a chocolate bar and a good book was stronger than we were. However, blue skies and less icy temperatures have given us a whole new enthusiasm for working out.
Although we know it’s generally January when everyone sets their intentions for the year, we think there’s something to be said for reappraising your goals for the year with fresh eyes once winter’s out of the way.
For example, we’d taken a (rather long) break from wearing our fitness tracker after the average number of steps we’d been taking in a typical day dipped well below the 10,000 we were aiming for. However, now that the sun’s shining and strolling through town has suddenly become so much more appealing, we’ll happily don a Fitbit again.
If you’ve also found it hard to stick to some of your 2018 goals while the weather’s been bullying us all, perhaps this could be the perfect time to sit down, work out what you’d really like to achieve by the end of the year (or just choose a few healthy habits that you’d like to integrate into your week) while those blue skies are making us all smile.
We’re aiming for a daily yoga or Pilates fix and will also be focusing on walking to appointments wherever possible and taking the stairs instead of the lift more often. Nothing too dramatic, but enough to keep that summertime spring in our step!
If you’ve just set some new goals, or are sticking with your New Year’s resolutions, we’d love to hear how you’re getting on. Please tell us all about it in the comments section below.

By an astonishing coincidence I have been thinking about spring and fitness too, and wondering about all those lovely summer clothes in need to fit into. I’m loving my Tai Chi at the moment. It is strengthening my bones: the preparatory exercises stretch and tone the body. The Tai Chi forms: a balance between stillness and movement, are wonderfully calming. I always finish with a smile on my face, and a positive vibe for the rest of the day. Exercise wakes a person up to the lovely possibilities in life.
