Acclaimed tapas restaurant El Gato Negro is bringing back Tipsy Tapas for the festive period.
The decidedly popular dining event will run every Saturday through to the end of December serving up small plates and bottomless tipples to guests in the restaurant’s stunning Grade II heritage building.
This follows the success of El Gato Negro’s sell-out Tipsy Tapas third anniversary celebrations earlier this year. This is designed to add a little further cheer to weekends as the darker, chiller nights descend.
Serving up extra treats, the team at El Gato Negro has extended the list of featured drinks. Guests are invited to enjoy three small plates and bottomless Sangria, Aperol spritz, apricot spritz, strawberry and peach Bellinis, Prosecco, Estrella, Cerveza or espresso Martini for just £35.
Reservations are based on a 90-minute sitting. Perfect for a celebration or just a fun catch up with family and friends.
Amongst the dishes available to be enjoyed are El Gato Negro’s highly sought-after bikini (toasted sandwich with jamòn serrano, Manchego & truffle butter). Try padrón peppers with Halen Môn sea salt (vg) and salt cod fritters with tartare sauce. Perchance a speciality like crispy fried baby squid with lemon aioli will appeal. You might well go for mini-Catalan chorizo with Aspall cider; sweet and spicy chicken wings; and patatas bravas with spiced tomato fritarda sauce and aioli.
It all coincides with the launch of El Gato Negro’s new seasonal menu, with a variety of new dishes introduced.
In-keeping with the restaurant’s signature style, all new small plates are built around the season’s finest seasonal produce, with just two or three ingredients expertly combined to allow the main flavours to shine through.
Stand out dishes include the pan-roasted cod with creamy haricot beans, sage and crispy pancetta (£12) and gambas pil pil – tiger prawns in a chilli and garlic sauce and served with focaccia (£14). Another favourite is slow cooked ox cheek with parsnip purée and parsnip crisps (£15).
Additions can be found on the restaurant’s list of vegetarian and vegan small plates including tempura cauliflower with romesco sauce (vg) (£7.50). Also for consideration: roasted aubergine with piquillo peppers, confit onion, and tomato and goats cheese (v) (£8); and grilled field mushrooms with homemade crisps and mushroom emulsion (v) (£7).
El Gato Negro has introduced two amazing new desserts to the menu – traditional Spanish churros with a Mars Bar sauce (v) (£7.50), and a warm chocolate brownie with Seville orange Chantilly cream (vg) (£7.50). Enjoy these sumptuous offerings.
Located in the heart of Exchange Flags, El Gato Negro is recognised for its distinctive small plates and tempting cocktails served in a beautiful, atmospheric building. Open Monday to Saturday, 12pm-late (last sitting 22:00), the restaurant boasts 240 covers across one impressive open floor elegant dining area. Key features include an impressive island bar with seating for 70, outdoor terrace with views across the historic square, and a private dining room for 18.
Tipsy Tapas is available every Saturday with sittings: 12pm-2pm throughout November and December. For those with a love of Sangria, guests can enjoy El Gato Negro’s £12 carafes of red, white or cava Sangria every day from 12pm-4pm and all-day Sunday when dining from the à la carte menu. Christmas reservations are open now.
