In winter, our priority is often keeping warm. If you face a lengthy commute on public transport, or you spend time waiting around in a frosty playground with your children, keeping warm might be difficult. You might spend many mornings stood shivering, or even jogging on the spot to stay warm. So when it comes to getting dressed and ready for your day, you are bound to put a focus on warmth.
But that doesn’t mean that you can’t also be fashionable. There doesn’t have to be a choice between warmth and comfort and fashion and style. There’s no reason why you can’t have it all. Sometimes, it’s essential that you do. In a dull, grey winter, sometimes feeling like you look great can be a big boost. It can improve your mood and the mood of those around you. Dressing well can increase your confidence, and looking your best could even help you to fight off signs of seasonal depression. So, let’s take a look at some ways that you can stay warm and be fashionable this wintertime.

Invest in a Good Pair of Boots

In summer, you can get away with cheap sandals or scruffy old pumps, as long as you don’t spend too much time on your feet. Your choice of footwear becomes much more critical in the winter when you are trying to keep your feet warm and dry, as well as finding shoes to match your outfit.

It’s worth investing in a good pair of waterproof boots. If you’ve got a few pairs, great, but make sure that you’ve got at least one pair of waterproof, tall, and flat boots, in either black, brown, or grey, to match all of your outfits, keep rain and mud off your feet, and offer great grip when the floor is wet or icy.

Spend Money on Your Big Winter Coat

You don’t always need to spend a lot of money to look good. But, in winter, it’s worth investing in two crucial pieces. Good boots are one, and a thick, waterproof winter coat is another. Many coats on the market are showerproof, if you spend a lot of time outdoors, try to find one that’s fully waterproof, and long enough that it comes down past your waist. Make sure it’s got a hood and is fully lined, but also that it is comfortable, offers you a good range of motion without being restrictive, and that you can fit a jumper under it.

Add Leather Pumps to Boring Outfits

Boots certainly aren’t the only shoes that you can wear in cold or even wet weather. There are plenty of other shoes that can look great. Leather pumps can look good with both jeans and dresses and will keep your feet warm and dry. Retro pumps are very fashionable this season and are readily available. Funky wellies are another fantastic winter footwear option.

Accessorise

Accessories are often the best way to turn a boring outfit into a more fashionable ensemble. Add statement necklaces and bo-ho beads to a thick jumper or plain turtleneck to add some fun. Then, focus on your outdoor wear. Thick, oversized scarves can grab attention, and hats, and gloves are as stylish as they are essential.

Chunky Knits

For many of us, skinny jeans, tall boots, and chunky knits are our winter uniform. They protect us from the weather and help us to feel safe. A loose-fitting jumper can also boost your confidence after any festive overindulgence.

When it comes to comfort on a cold day, very little feels better than a big thick jumper, with love sleeves and soft material. Get a few chunky jumpers, as well as lighter layers to give yourself options.

Fun Tights

There’s absolutely nothing to stop you continuing to wear your favourite summer dresses, shorts, and skirts throughout the winter. But, you might want to add some tights to keep warm. Thick black tights are always welcome, but if you’re going to stay on-trend, add some patterns to your legs. Patterned or coloured tights look especially great with plain or dark dresses, adding some glamour, without neglecting warmth.

Show Your Socks Off

If you prefer, long, woolen socks are another great option. Even if they are under trousers and no one sees them, you’ll know they are there, and your legs will thank you.

Layer it Up

The problem with winter is that while it’s cold outside, it’s not usually cold everywhere else. We wrap up warm for our journeys and then spend time sweltering once we arrive. Light layers, like vests, long sleeve t-shirts, and light knits, can help solve this problem by giving you options.
