WHY PERSONALISATION IS ONE OF FASHION’S MOST ENDURING TRENDS

HERE AT HIS & HERS WE’VE SEEN A LOT OF FASHION TRENDS COME AND GO OVER THE YEARS AND A FEW, LIKE DOUBLE DENIM, THAT SOMEHOW NEVER QUITE GO AWAY.

One trend that you just can’t get away from is personalisation. From Gucci inviting customers to customise their bags, jumpers and sneakers to Nike giving us the opportunity to make like a sports-star and design our own trainers, it seems like every brand is on a mission to ensure that we never bump into someone wearing the same outfit as us again!

If you want to tap into the personalisation trend without a Kardashian-level budget, the answer could be to visit Lancaster Printing to customise your own accessories. For example, if you’re organising a hen do, a reunion or a ‘significant’ birthday, ordering wristbands for everyone who attends will give your friends a fun memento of the night (and will cost surprisingly little).

His & Hers’ trend prediction for 2019 is that a lot more people will be doing what the big brands do and going direct to printing companies to turn everyday accessories into one-offs incorporating names, initials and dates.

Of course personalised accessories are nothing new. Long before Sarah Jessica Parker donned her ‘Carrie’ necklace on Sex and the City, fashion lovers were finding ways to quite literally make their accessories their own – from monogramed towelling robes and PJs to Tiffany & Co’s iconic dog tags, you’ll find plenty of examples of fashion with the personal touch in every decade.

As we come towards the end of the year, His & Hers would highly recommend tapping into the personalisation trend to make your Christmas presents feel even more special. From taking a little longer to send a friend a personalised card featuring pictures of some special shared occasions to writing a thoughtful message on gift tags or inside your cards, those little touches can really help to make the recipient feel special.

Also, if you’ve chosen a gift like a watch or a pendant, it could be worth getting it engraved with a few words or the recipient’s initials. Again, this is a small detail, but it could be one that’s appreciated for years to come.

Personalisation can also pay off when you’re taking stock of your wardrobe and feeling like none of your usual go-to outfits are really inspiring you. Why not round up the items that need taking up, taking in or repairing and take them to your local tailors. For some reason there’s something about getting clothes taken in, re-hemmed or repaired that instantly makes you feel like a grown-up. It’s also a great way to get a little more life out of your favourite clothes and do your bit for the environment at the same time.

If you have any tips on how to personalise your outfits, accessories or gifts, please share them with us in the comments section. We’d love to hear from you!
