Ice Festival

LIVERPOOL’S UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE WATERFRONT IS SET TO BE TRANSFORMED INTO A WINTER WONDERLAND FROM NEXT MONTH, AS THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS ICE FESTIVAL RETURNS, WITH MORE ATTRACTIONS AND A BIGGER, BRAND NEW SITE.

Opening on Friday 11th November, the Ice Festival will take over the Pier Head during the Winter months, running until 3rd January 2017.

Previously located on Chavasse Park, the move to the Waterfront has allowed event organisers to grow the festival content, increasing the programme of activities for visitors to enjoy in the lead up to Christmas. This year’s event features under-cover ice-skating, exhilarating rides and entertainment for the whole family amongst its attractions, as well as food outlets, bars and cafes.

Speaking about the relocation of this year’s Ice Festival, Richard Elmer of the event organisers said: “It’s great to be back in Liverpool for the festive season, and we’re very excited to be bringing the event to the Pier Head. The move has given us a whole new opportunity to expand our offer, introducing brand new elements, and the world-famous site will bring an iconic feel to our festival.”

Donna Howitt, Liverpool ONE Marketing Director added: “We are really pleased to see the Ice Festival return to Liverpool in its new location at The Pier Head. Their residency and success at Liverpool ONE has provided the platform for the expansion into their iconic home for 2016. The Festival is a superb attraction for anyone visiting the city at Christmas and the perfect addition to any festive shopping trip.”

Councillor Wendy Simon – Assistant Mayor of Liverpool & Cabinet Member – Culture, Tourism & Events also commented: “We’re delighted to welcome the Ice Festival back to Liverpool and are looking forward to seeing it in its new home. It’s a very popular event within the city’s festival calendar and there’s no better backdrop than the iconic Three Graces – we’re certain it will look spectacular.”

“The Ice Festival will be part of the One Magical City campaign, which links together the seasonal offering across Liverpool, from its Waterfront to the retail heart and the historic St. George’s Quarter. This is one of a series of announcements that will make Liverpool the ideal destination this Christmas.”
