There is a beautiful earth mural on the wall of the salon, which incorporates their mission statement. ‘Our mission at Aveda is to care for the world we live in, from the products we make to the ways in which we give back to society…We strive to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility, not just in the world of beauty, but around the world.’

We were warmly welcomed and offered refreshing herbal tea. Jane, our therapist, took us through a list of questions about skin type: sensitivity, dryness, uneven skin tone, and any concerns such as lines and wrinkles. Yes to all of the above! When age is a factor, dryness and dullness are usually the key issues, and of course wrinkles. Aveda has a plan for everything.  I was asked what my Chakra choice would be. It could have been ‘insight’ or ‘grounded’ but I opted for ‘harmony’. The aroma of rose petals was delightful, refreshing and soothing.

After a relaxing back massage, Jane began the facial, which is really a divine ritual of care. First came the Botanical Kinetics cream cleanser: £18. The Wedding Masque and eye masque came as a surprise because they are beautifully gentle and nurturing. There is the Tulasāra dry-brush to gently exfoliate, which stimulates softly: £27. I opted for Tulasāra Bright, a wonderful concentrate that evens skin tone and restores radiance: £45.

I loved the Botanical Kinetics toner, and hydrating lotion. It was a soothing experience and different products are geared to work for younger and mature skin types. Tulasāra Oleation Oil felt wonderful, and can be used morning and evening as part of a total skin care regime. It is reasonably priced at £38.

The results were amazing. My skin has a sheen, that defines bone structure, and it glows with an even tone. The skin colour proclaims: healthy and vibrant. We are converts to a natural, holistic approach to beauty using plant extracts. We left for a healthy bite to eat feeling virtuous and fabulous.
