We’ll often joke with friends about the ill-judged cuts and colours that seemed like a good idea at the time, but which make us chuckle when we look back at old photographs.

We suspect that most people have experimented with a drastic change of cut and colour which they’ve almost immediately regretted at some point in their lives.

However, it’s worth taking your time to consider the pros and cons of having a radical re-style after a breakup. It may be frustrating holding fire when the impulse to get a new look strikes, but it’ll be less frustrating than waiting for years for your hair to grow back!

Washing and drying your hair can be a time-consuming process (so much so that we’ve unashamedly mastered the mid-week up-do here at His & Hers). We’ve all experienced that dilemma when you know your hair would look and feel so much nicer after being washed, but you just can’t face the hassle of washing, conditioning, applying products and embarking upon the long process of blow drying your hair. Yes, there’ll always be times when the dry shampoo beckons, but if you treat yourself to a luxurious shampoo and conditioner that you love and a hairdryer that gets the job done swiftly and efficiently, washing your hair will feel like less of a chore and more of a pleasure.

Tackle the root causes of your hair-related worries

Some hair issues can be easily fixed with a new cut and colour or even by changing your usual shampoo and conditioner. However, if the underlying issue is more serious, it’s worth taking stock of what the real problem is and whether there’s anything you can do about it. Many men and women suffer from hair loss, which can have a big impact on confidence. Admittedly, it’ll take more than a quick trip to Boots in your lunchbreak to tackle this one, but it’s still worth taking action. Until recently, we tended to associate hair transplants with footballers, celebrities and the very wealthy. However, with hair loss affecting so many people and demand for implants so high, this treatment has finally made it into the mainstream.

Take time for yourself

When life gets busy, taking some time out in the hairdresser’s chair can feel like an indulgence. However, sometimes taking the time to look after yourself can be the best and fastest way to recharge your batteries, giving you better reserves to draw upon when you’re looking after everybody else. Plus, a fresh haircut is a great way to boost your mood and your confidence. So if you’ve been putting off a much-needed trim or re-style because you’re ‘too busy’, give yourself a break (quite literally) and enjoy a little hard earned time for yourself.
