WITH 100 DAYS TO GO UNTIL TRI LIVERPOOL, THE INSPIRATIONAL CITY-CENTRE TRIATHLON EVENT IN LIVERPOOL, BRITISH TRIATHLON HAS ANNOUNCED AN ADDITIONAL 30 NEW PLACES FOR THE SPRINT DISTANCE.

With both standard entries full over a month ago and sprint distance places reaching maximum capacity this week, British Triathlon has worked with Liverpool City Council to release 30 new sprint distance places for the urban triathlon race which takes place on Sunday, August 14, 2016.

CEO of British Triathlon, Jack Buckner said: “The response to Tri Liverpool 2016 has been phenomenal and we are overwhelmed at the staggering amount of entries we have had with 100 days to go to the world-class race. The standard distance reach capacity in March and we have over 200 people on the waiting list, hoping for places.

“In Olympic and Paralympic year, it is going to be incredible to witness a full house of elite and age-group triathletes and paratriathletes competing for British Championship titles alongside everyday entrants who are achieving their own triathlon goals.”

Newly released sprint distance places will see entrants swim 750m in open water along Kings Dock before mounting their bikes in the iconic transition area within the Echo Arena. A looping 20km cycle route of the city will be followed by a 5km sprint to the iconic finish line, just underneath the Liverpool Wheel by the ACC Liverpool concourse.

Elite athlete and winner of Tri Liverpool 2015, Sophie Coldwell, said: “Tri Liverpool is a special race for any triathlete – no matter where you are in terms of your sporting ability. The looping course gives spectators great vantage points and the whole festival feel of the weekend sees elite and amateur athletes come together in a true triathlon community spirit. Tri Liverpool is one of my favourite races of the whole season and with 100 days to go, it’s a perfect time to set and achieve your summer fitness goal.”

CEO of British Triathlon, Jack Buckner, added: “100 days to go is a great timeframe for anyone thinking of training to take part. We believe that the three disciplines of triathlon are an efficient way to improve strength and stamina and get fit for summer and encourage anyone thinking of entering to do so, before Tri Liverpool is full.

“In addition to the newly released sprint places, we also have the shorter GO TRI+ beginner distance and relay races open for entries, with both expected to reach capacity ahead of the entry deadline.”

Tri Liverpool takes place on Sunday August 14, 2016 and will welcome elite triathletes and paratriathletes looking to fight for British titles. Age-group triathletes will also get the chance to qualify for the European Championships in Kitzbühel, Austria in 2017. Alongside those looking to compete for serious sporting achievements, over 1000 participants will compete for fun across four distances; Standard, Sprint, Beginner and Relay.
