SOMETIMES IT’S TEMPTING TO GO IT ALONE WHEN WORKING TOWARDS OWNING YOUR DREAM HOME OR COMPLETING YOUR LATEST INTERIOR DESIGN SCHEME. HOWEVER, IF YOU’RE IN A RELATIONSHIP, WORKING TOGETHER TO CREATE SPACES YOU’LL ENJOY SHARING IS ALMOST CERTAIN TO BE MORE FULFILLING.
Forget all of the clichés about couples arguing in Ikea. Sometimes creating a space that reflects what you both want can enhance your home life. With this in mind, in the latest His & Hers interiors update, here’s why the bedroom may well be the most important room in the home to decorate together with your partner.
Firstly, it’s the safe haven where you will both want to come to retreat away from the rest of the world, and it makes a relaxing space where you can unwind after a busy day in the office. As it may be the one truly private space that you both own, it’s important that you each feel like you belong in it. This won’t be quite as important with your home’s other rooms, as you might share those with other family members. But the bedroom is just for the two of you. So, to make sure you both love your bedroom’s interior design, you might want to follow these tips.
Give Each Other Equal Storage Space!
You will both have your own things that you will want to store in your bedroom, such as clothes, books, and toiletries, so it’s a good idea to share all of the storage space equally. If you don’t have enough for both of you in your bedroom right now, it’s always worth adding an extra chest of drawers or cupboard. After all, you can never have too much storage space, especially in your bedroom!
Go For Neutral Shades
Even if you have the same kinds of tastes in interior design and decor trends, it’s still always best to stick to a neutrally decorated bedroom. That’s because neutral bedrooms are optimised for sleep, and bold decor could prove to be quite overwhelming and very distracting. Stick to neutral tones on the walls, and you shouldn’t have any problem falling asleep at night.
Create The Illusion Of Space
As the two of you will be in the bedroom together, you will want to make it as roomy and spacious as possible so that you don’t feel too cramped in together. The best way to do that is to get as much natural light in as possible. You can buy blinds online that can be made to measure so that they don’t block too much light while they are open. It’s also a good idea to hang a mirror on the wall opposite the window as this will reflect all of the light around the room.
Add Some Extra Seating
It’s always nice to add some seating to a bedroom. This will give the two of you somewhere to sit and chat to each other or to read the papers in the morning. It’ll be nice to have somewhere to sit other than just on the bed! You might want to look for a couple of vintage armchairs to place next to each other. Alternatively, you might want to add a chaise lounge that the two of you can cosy up together on. I’m sure you will be happy with any type of extra seating in your bedroom!
So, when you decorate your bedroom, don’t just think about yourself. Consider your partner as well!
