El Gato Negro breakfast menu

His & Hers was there at the launch of El Gato Negro, and we re-visited to enjoy some wonderful tapas. We were interested and intrigued to hear of their new innovate breakfast menu with a ‘fizz’ offer that includes red wine (my favourite). As they say, Saturday just got a lot more interesting.

WORDS: Jean Hill

This is a beautiful venue, that combines elegant comfort with high style. There is a broad selection of brunch classics served with a Spanish twist, available at the fine Exchange Flags restaurant. You snooze, you lose. The location is stunning and the food has an enviable reputation.

Available from 11am to 1pm every Saturday, guests can choose from the healthiest of eats to the most indulgent of treats. There is a poetic flavour to some of the ingredients: El Gato Negro’s Acai Bowl with blueberries, strawberries, granola and viola flowers (£6). Alternatively try smashed avocado and romesco sauce, served with poached egg on sourdough toast and hollandaise (£7.50) that just sounds plain delicious. The restaurant’s Torrijas, Spanish style French toast dusted with cinnamon sugar is recommended (£5).

For a greater flavour of Spain savour the taste of El Gato Negro’s Huevos Rotos, panfried chorizo with patatas bravas, creamy chorizo sauce and fried egg (£7.50). Or try Spanish Muffin, a pork & chorizo patty served with bacon, a fried egg with Manchego cheese, and caramelised onion (£8).

There’s Smoked Salmon (£9); Portobello Mushrooms (£6); a traditional Tortilla (£5.50 or £7.50 with bacon). Sobrasada comes with chorizo spread on toasted brioche with duck egg (£6.50). I think there is a wealth of dishes to choose from.

Mocktails, soft drinks and a great selection of teas and coffees are available on the main menu for guests looking for a lighter lunch.
