NEW YEAR IS A TIME FOR CELEBRATION. THE MANNER WE CHOOSE TO CELEBRATE IS ENTIRELY UP TO US. HOWEVER, FAR TOO OFTEN WE FIND OURSELVES SIMPLY HEADING OUT ON NEW YEAR’S EVE WITHOUT GIVING IT MUCH THOUGHT.
We head to the same places, with the same people and, yes, do the same things as the previous year. Rather than an exciting evening, we end up with a night that is lacking any engaging and endearing factors.
Well, it’s time for a change. Here we look at original ways to see in the New Year that will inject new levels of excitement. No longer will you rely on cheap party hats for your fun, though they can still play a role! Instead make New Year’s Eve a great night to remember for the rest of the year to come.
Time marches on but it can be easy to forget the important elements of any particular year. To remember the year that has just passed, why not create a little time capsule of your own, full of memories, photos and items that sum up the last 12 months? This can prove quite cathartic as a process and can also make you remember the good things that happened along the way. Looking at this time capsule on New Year’s Eve, will mean that you have new focus and resolve going forward. If you share your life with others, then make it a group gathering/discussion with food and drink. It may prove the best night for a while.
Parties can be great, but they do not have to be grand affairs, at least not in terms of a venue, etc. Why not have a house party for a few select friends and engage in something special such as a cocktail night? You can even dress up formally, or in fancy dress, with entertaining celebrity masks, and then engage with one another at the party. Make sure you have all the supplies well in advance and can cater for all of your guests’ dietary and alcohol requirements.
Board Games & Sleepovers
Ever wondered why children can be happy when everyone else is sad? Usually it’s because they can escape into their own worlds at any time. So why not apply a little childlike thinking to the evening? Your friends can sleepover and spend the night playing the board games that are simply gathering dust somewhere in the house. Let every guest bring a different game and supplement the evening with great drinks and food.
You won’t be able to spend New Year’s Eve with all of your favourite people – some may be on the other side of the world. You can still make them part of the event by reaching out to them via apps such as Skype. This will help them feel a little less homesick and will remind you both of your lasting friendship.
We all love cake, so either have a baking party, or let everyone bring their own home bakes to your event. The latter is easier, but beware the pre-purchased cake, there’s always one!
We often go outside on New Year’s Eve, but seldom do we appreciate the true beauty of the outdoors. Look up and enjoy the wonders of the universe. Clear skies can be make for a perfect evening to stargaze. Even an overcast night could provide its own kind of natural wonder and beauty.
Be with the one you love and treat yourselves to an early night together.
There are so many ways in which you can enjoy New Year’s Eve, and hopefully here we’ve broadened your expectations and imaginations. Don’t go with the flow. Instead, create a great New Year’s Eve of your own. You’ll be glad you did.
