With so much beauty and history to be discovered nearby; it is no wonder people are opting to stay close to home. Holidaying within the UK also eliminates the need for lengthy flights and intensive travel plans and makes popping away for a weekend easy. Here are 5-steps to get your romantic staycation planning off to a strong start:

  • 1. Research locations

The first step in planning any trip is to decide where you want to go. There are so many fascinating and exciting locations across the UK which would make a perfect backdrop for a romantic break. Whether it be a bustling, busy city, a historical town, a place significant to you as a couple or a luxury destination for a weekend of pampering. Once you have decided how far you would like to travel, map out the suitable destinations for your stay and research the local area to determine which you prefer.

  • 2. Element of surprise

Are you planning on keeping the trip a surprise from your partner? Surprises are always great for a romantic getaway; adding a special touch. Sometimes it isn’t practical, so don’t worry if you can’t keep it a surprise. However, if you do want to give it a go and plan a surprise getaway, there are a few things to help you on your way; most importantly check their schedule, maybe even check with their friends and colleagues to ensure they are available. Once your surprise staycation is planned, think about how you’d like to share the surprise when the time is right. You could do this via another gift or a card, or even put some clues together and have them guess.  If you’re worried they may double book or need to pack certain items, it might be wise to let them in on the dates, but keep the destination a secret.

  • 3. Disconnect from the outside world

We’re all guilty of spending too much time on our phones and computers; we’re constantly connected. Going away for a romantic break with your partner is a great opportunity to disconnect from the online world. Try to turn off your phones, or even better, leave them in your accommodation, this way you can spend quality together, really be present in the moment and give yourself a small break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

  • 4. Add a touch of luxury

A couple of luxury touches can go a long way in making your romantic break one to remember. Whether it be a meal at a Michelin starred restaurant, a pampering spa treatment, afternoon tea or a stay at a luxury hotel. Many hotels offer in room luxury packages, such as The Grand, York, which are perfect for injecting luxury into your romantic break from the minute you arrive!

  • 5. Try something new

Weekend getaways are the perfect opportunity to try something new and exciting. If you choose a historical location, why not go on a tour or museum trip to soak up the history and learn something new? Or, search for local activities you wouldn’t normally do; enrol on a cookery class or go wine tasting.

With the right planning and preparation, you’ll be sure to have a romantic staycation to remember, wherever you choose to visit.
