REGULAR READERS MAY HAVE SPOTTED THAT THE HIS & HERS TEAM IS JUST ONE STEP AWAY FROM ADDING ‘STAYING AT HOME FOR QUIET NIGHTS IN IN PJS’ TO THE HOBBIES AND INTERESTS SECTION OF OUR CVS.

Whether it’s curling up with a book, indulging in Netflix’s finest, or even just appreciating the restorative powers of a great face mask, we’re no strangers to the charms of a cosy night in.

To really live the ‘staying in is the new going out’ dream, it’s worth putting in some prep. So here are our top tips for cosying up your home.

Never underestimate the impact of a good throw

Have you ever stopped to appreciate just how neat and stylish beds tend to look in luxury hotels? His & Hers estimates that approximately 90% of this is down to the addition of matching decorative pillows and a throw, which instantly makes a bed look coordinated and chic. Look out for really tactile throws for your bed and sofa. They’ll add a nice grown-up flourish to your interior design scheme, while also providing a comforting cocoon in which to curl up on cool evenings.

Sourcing decent blinds or curtains will be so worth it!

If you have blinds or curtains that are just about hanging in there (perhaps literally!) it can be tempting to just ignore them, avoiding having to measure up your windows or wrestle with curtain rails. However, this is one of those jobs that generally seems like much more hassle than it will be in reality. Look out for simple, made-to-measure options like Venetian blinds by Direct Blinds, which are perfect if you want a neutral, contemporary style for your windows.

Think about lighting

If it’s been a while since you last decorated, it could be worth walking round your home and having a think about whether there are any areas where you’d really appreciate having some low-level lighting. Simply adding some bedside lamps on either side of the bed could make taking a book to bed more enjoyable and a floor lamp by the sofa could make a welcome alternative to harsh overhead lighting in the evenings.

Create a wish-list

If you have a niggling sense that you’d like your home to feel cosier, but you don’t know where to start, it could be time to use Pinterest, or even some old-fashioned homes and gardens magazines, to start keeping track of what you love and what you don’t. Then by the time you really need to replace things like your blinds or sofa, you’ll already know what your ideal replacement looks like.

We’re very proud to bring you this feature in association with Direct Blinds. If you have any tips of your own for making your home feel cosier, please share them in the comments section below. And for more homes and gardens inspo, please pay a visit to our interiors page.
