It had been a hectic but exciting weekend. I spent Sunday morning with my lovely daughter-in-law and little people (grandchildren). Both John Lewis and Waterstones are havens for children and playful adults. We had a lot of fun and sourced some play-dough with handy gadgets, then I left the grandchildren enjoying an extravagance of books.

Mason’s on Seel Street is a great space. The décor is light and just bright enough. The ambience is cosy and we relaxed into a fun Sunday afternoon.

There are a range of tempting food and drink options. We settled on Sunday lunch: there is a bottomless drinks version, but I settled on a beautiful glass of Malbec to go with the butter chicken feast with which we were presented. There is a gammon version, top-side of beef and Italian herb-roasted butternut squash. This is a bargain at £15. The bottomless drinks version comes in at £39 (terms apply).

Sunday roast came with all the trappings. These included enormous Yorkshire puddings, that still retained great ‘roast juice’ flavour. There were super foods in the mix: broccoli and kale. The roasties were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The chicken itself was silky butter smooth and soft and tender. The gravy tasted home-made. We enjoyed every mouth-full.

We loved the music. Disco and live music is on offer. This was a totally relaxing experience with a really friendly welcome and great service. Thank you Emily for taking great care of us and being attentive to exactly the right level.

The choices are extensive. There are bottomless brunches, Meet Meat menu, After Dark and Friday Supper Club with live music. It is the attention to detail that impresses. Bagels come with a dripping of Hollandaise sauce. Buttermilk chicken, After Dark menu, comes with chilli dipping sauce.

It all seemed effortless, but it takes a good deal of work, behind the scenes, in the kitchen to make this work. And it works beautifully.

Highly recommended.
