It is that lovely time of year when we all make plans for Christmas and New Year and anticipate those special events. It is His & Hers’ favourite time of year. Visiting the Metquarter is always a pleasure. The Food Hall boasts quality vendors within elegant surroundings. It is a family friendly, welcoming place to enjoy lunch whilst out Christmas shopping, or simply just out and about. Urban Calm is our go to destination for pampering and soothing treatments. Say it with Diamonds offers a splash of glitz, glamour and great gifts. The Everyman Cinema always has great seasonal offerings in a comfortable, elegant setting with food and drink served to your sofa-seating.

We had an invite to Fairytale Endings’ fashion show which featured prom, party, evening and bridal wear. This was an exciting foretaste, full of fairy-tale frocks. There was an eau de nil creation that was sleek, body skimming, finishing just below the knee and was beautiful. There was an aqua-marine/blue shimmering day or evening dress, pleated below the waist with a handkerchief hem. There was a spectacular chiffon, much embellished, special event delicate pink dress that swirled around the ground as the model glided past. All the models were customers of Fairytale Endings, which meant we saw the impact of a ‘posh’ frock on ordinary people of different shapes and sizes. Wearing the outfit that suits your size, style and colouring, that has élan, can transform a person’s confidence and enrich an experience.
My favourite dress was a full-length emerald, shimmering creation, fitted at the waist with a wealth of material falling to the ground. Blue and emerald seemed to be favourite colours. Yet the range was wide: pillar box red, classical black, navy-blue, lemon, pink and orange. Take your pick. The bridal wear involved rich materials and flowing trains. My favourite was a rich, heavy satin, designed with classic simplicity.
The fashion show also shone the spotlight on some of Metquarter’s other retail tenants. Say It With Diamonds provided jewellery for the show whilst Kurt Geiger complemented outfits with the latest shoes and bags from its Metquarter store.
Gill O’Neill, owner at Fairytale Endings, said: “Whether you’re looking for the perfect outfit for a Christmas do, New Year’s Eve, a romantic evening or to say yes to ‘the’ wedding dress, we’ve got the perfect dress for you…”
There is much to do at the Metquarter. There are boutiques such as Smudge, which offers distinctive styles, you might not see elsewhere. There is a lovely florist which lifts your spirits as you walk by. There are distinctive male and female clothes shops: a hairdresser’s too. It would be easy to make this my home from home for the next few months.
