THE BEATLES STORY HAS ANNOUNCED THAT PATTIE BOYD’S ‘GEORGE, ERIC AND ME’ PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION, WHICH WAS DUE TO FINISH IN OCTOBER, WILL NOW STAY IN THE CITY UNTIL 9TH JANUARY 2017 DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND.
Pattie’s fascinating collection of images has been extremely popular and The Beatles Story has welcomed more than 126,000 visitors since the exhibition opened in May this year.
The photographer and former model, who was famously married to both George Harrison and Eric Clapton, is delighted that her unique collection of photographs has been so well received. She said: “I have had so many lovely comments about the exhibition, which was great fun to put together.
“The collection of images looks fabulous in situ at The Beatles Story Gallery at The Pier Head with the city’s Three Graces providing the perfect backdrop. I have been truly overwhelmed by the public reaction and I am thrilled that the exhibition is being extended until the New Year.”
Pattie’s ‘George, Eric and Me’ photography exhibition features a fascinating collection of images with intimate portraits of the late Beatle George Harrison and musician Eric Clapton by the woman who shared both their lives. The exhibition also includes candid photographs of the musical icons and their rock ’n’ roll star friends such as The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood.
On a recent visit to The Beatles Story, Pattie also added two of her most iconic outfits to the exhibition at the Pier Head site. One of the outfits, a jacket and short skirt, was made especially for Pattie by The Fool, while she bought the other outfit, a floaty Thea Porter dress, while in Italy on an Italian Vogue shoot in 1970.
Martin King of The Beatles Story said: “It’s been a real honour to give Pattie’s exhibition its UK debut at The Beatles Story. It’s been hugely popular with visitors and I am really pleased that we are able to extend the exhibition for a further three months.
“Pattie has had an absolutely fascinating life and the ‘George, Eric and Me’ exhibition documents that beautifully with each picture telling its own story.”
Pattie was married to both George Harrison (from 1966 to 1977) and Eric Clapton (from 1979 to 1988).
She first met George Harrison during filming of A Hard Day’s Night in 1964 when she played a schoolgirl, but she was engaged to photographer Eric Swayne and initially declined Harrison’s offer of a date.
Just a few days later, the pair went out to a club, chaperoned by Beatles manager Brian Epstein, and according to Pattie one of the first things George said to her was: “Will you marry me?”
George and Eric were close friends but during Pattie’s marriage to the Beatle, Eric, who found fame in the 1960s with his rock group Cream and also as a solo artist, fell in love with her.
During the late 1960s, George and Eric became close friends and began writing and recording songs together. By the early 1970s, Eric had written his album with Derek and the Dominoes, Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, to proclaim his love for Pattie.
The model was also the inspiration for Eric Clapton’s classic Wonderful Tonight.
