MY BATHROOM OBSESSION: THE PERFECT SHOWER

IN MY YOUNGER DAYS, I THOUGHT CREATING THE PERFECT BATHROOM WAS ALL ABOUT SOURCING A BEAUTIFUL ROLL-TOP BATH LIKE THE ONE IN THE FLAKE ADS AND BEING ABLE TO AFFORD FIRED EARTH TILES (MOLTON BROWN TOILETRIES MAY ALSO HAVE FEATURED IN THE FANTASY).

However, after living in several shared student houses in my uni days, followed by several ‘grown-up’ homes of my own, I’ve learnt that pretty much everything I thought I knew about bathrooms was wrong.

In my first year at uni I quickly discovered that you didn’t want to be the last person to wash your hair in the morning, because I don’t care how much good cold shower are supposed to do for your hair, skin, circulation or energy levels, they really aren’t any fun at all. Years on, I can’t remember what the shower in that shared student house looked like, but I do remember yearning for more hot water!

Fast forward a few years to non-student living, when I discovered that if your heart wants an apartment at the top of a large Georgian property, what you gain in period charm, you will almost certainly lose in terms of water pressure!

After a period spent getting showers that could’ve done with being just a little toastier and more powerful, it turned out that it was possible to have a booster fitted to increase the water pressure (and make showers so, so much better!) It may not have been the most glamorous of purchases, but it made getting ready in the mornings better every single day.

The lesson I took away from this? I know beautiful bathroom fittings and heartbreakingly expensive brands will always capture your imagination (darn you, Pinterest!) but if your water pressure could use some improvement, step away from those mood boards for a minute and shop online with Complete Pump Supplies.

Because baths and showers are so much more enjoyable when you’re not worrying about when the hot water will run out, or making use of your yoga poses in an effort to contort yourself into a position where the trickle of water coming from the shower might eventually wash all of the conditioner out of your hair.

Also, if you’re doing up your bathroom from scratch and it tends to get chilly in winter, consider under-floor heating. Again, it feels like a bit of a grown-up purchase and doesn’t have the immediate feel-good factor of shopping for baths, showers and tiles, but your future self will thank you for it on every single winters morning!

We’re very proud to bring you this feature in association with Complete Pump Supplies. The range of products we’ve linked to above are theirs, but the words and the heartfelt recommendations to invest in the best water pressure you can afford are all ours.
