IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR WHEN EVERYONE’S INSTAGRAM GRID SEEMS TO SHIFT IN SHADE FROM MILLENNIAL PINK TO INFINITY POOL BLUE ALMOST OVERNIGHT AND YOU CAN BARELY MOVE FOR INFLUENCERS IN GUCCI AVIATOR SHADES.
In short, it seems like the rest of the world has ditched the day job to live their best lives in a style befitting Myspace Tom (who you can find on Instagram: @myspacetom raising the early retirement / holiday lifestyle bar considerably, for which we salute him).
One by one, your friends begin to tell you that your ‘impromptu’ drinks dates will need to be pushed back into next month because they’ll be sipping their cocktails from a sunlounger that weekend. Which is all well and good because you keep thinking that you’ll just get through ‘this busy period in work’ which you’re secretly beginning to suspect is, in fact, your life, and then get googling last-minute breaks.
This point is basically the holiday crossroads – the point at which you can either bite the bullet and book some time off or start persuading yourself that in many ways, autumn really is the new summer.
But take it from a woman who’s left too many holiday days unclaimed over the years, although autumn has many excellent qualities, including but not limited to, justifying the wearing of PJs and the quaffing of anything vaguely ‘seasonal’ from Starbucks around the clock, if you pass up the chance to sit somewhere beautiful in summer and watch the world pass by, you’ll probably regret it.
So here are a few tips for taking the holiday plunge…
Get Googling
Set aside some time to check out the cost of flights and hotels in your ‘wish list’ locations. Once you know which destinations are within your budget and have good flight times, it’ll be much easier to narrow your search and sort the hellholes from the hell yeses!
Then once you know where you’d like to go, Customer Service Guru provides hard to find contact details for holiday websites and airlines and also discount codes to score you some extra savings on your travels, ensuring that you have all the best deals and all the relevant info at your fingertips.
Savour your travel prep
Once your holiday’s booked and the countdown is on, it’s time to savour the more fun aspects of holiday prep – whether it’s booking in for a spray tan or even just treating yourself to a new T-shirt or two, somehow these everyday activities feel a little more special when you know that they’re holiday-related.
Here’s to making some fantastic memories and taking a hard-earned break from work this summer!
