THE ICONIC TITANIC HOTEL, STANLEY DOCK, LIVERPOOL IS A MASTERPIECE OF BRICK AND IRON, AND IS A PRECIOUS REPRESENTATION OF LIVERPOOL’S ARCHITECTURAL HISTORY, PAST AND PRESENT. SO, THE OBVIOUS SPACE TO CHOOSE FOR THE NORTHERN DESIGN AWARDS 2015.
His & Hers arrived to be warmly greeted and handed a glass of champagne in almost one elegant movement. Fellow guests were milling around the large reception hall, raving about their accommodation. Rooms are spacious with vaulted brick ceilings, elegant furniture and rich fabrics. The Spa boasts catacombs of Roman proportions with unadulterated pampering on tap.
Jazz Publications, founded by Stu Mears, has a formidable reputation for orchestrating grand events and award ceremonies, and this was no exception. Shelley Bond, Director of The Northern Design Awards is a gracious host, and expresses her passion for great design (particularly when located in the North) eloquently. The list of judges is bound to impress: amongst them was Wayne Hemingway, who entertained those lucky enough to be at his table for dinner, with tales of happenings in Liverpool and a claim that the best ice-cream in the world is vegan. Other judges included: Linda Barker, gorgeous George Clarke, Jan Constantine and HRH Princess Katarina. Dinner was delightful. The Stanley’s Bar and Grill is famous for its steak: Chateaubriand, T-Bone, and fillet with bourbon and garlic sauce: if you’re vegetarian options include delicious Potato Gnocchi.
Wayne Hemingway glided us skilfully through the winners. Some of our favourites: Residential Conversion winner: Diesel House, it’s a perfect fusion of wood, painted white or stained dark, brick and classic simple design: Room of the Year was Orangery Oliver Steer Interior Design, that boasted glorious extravagant lighting: Hotel Interior Design winner, The Orange Tree by Fusion by Design, that charmed with attention to detail, stunning wallpaper and fabric realised on a grand scale. A fabulous occasion.
