Northern Design Awards update

THE ORGANISERS OF THE NORTHERN DESIGN AWARDS, WHICH WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE TITANIC HOTEL ON 30TH OCTOBER, HAVE ANNOUNCED THAT A NUMBER OF LIVERPOOL DESIGNERS AND ARCHITECTS HAVE MADE IT THROUGH TO THE FINALS.

The Northern Design Awards are in their thirteenth year and will be coming to Liverpool for the first time this month, so it seems particularly apt that Liverpool companies have had a particularly strong showing in this year’s awards.

Local finalists include Elaine Creswell (for commercial landscaping design), Belvoir Interiors, The Old Blind School, Aloft Hotel and Liverpool’s North Western Hotel. They will be competing against the leading lights of the north’s vibrant design scene at the glittering Northern Design Awards.

Fittingly, The Northern Design Awards are always held at striking Northern venues – from the Chester Grosvenor Hotel to Manchester’s Lowry Hotel and Monastery and Buxton’s stunning Devonshire Dome.

Director of Events, Shelley Bond, commented: “We’re delighted to have had so many strong entries from Liverpool companies for this year’s Northern Design Awards. The standard of this year’s entries has been so high that our judges had to allocate extra time to choose our finalists and we have a fantastic array of different projects from around the north represented. We’re so excited to be bringing the awards to Liverpool, a city with a rich architectural and design heritage, this year, and celebrating the achievements of such an impressive list of finalists.”

After hosting their first small awards ceremony at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel, the organisers of the Northern Design Awards soon attracted the attention of the biggest names in design and architecture, and following the steady growth of the event, they’re celebrating the 13th anniversary of the awards in Liverpool on 30th October.

The Jazz Events team, who are the organisers of the Northern Design Awards, saw the potential of the awards and soon began looking for larger venues to cater for growing demand for tickets. Last year, they brought the biggest Northern Design Awards to date to the dazzling Devonshire Dome in Buxton. The year before they’d hosted the event at Manchester’s stunning Monastery.

Shelley Bond added: “We’re proud to have nurtured the Northern Design Awards, overseeing the growth and development of this hugely popular awards ceremony. Over the years, we’ve worked closely with Wayne Hemingway, our compere and judge, who has also become a part of the heart and soul of the awards.”

Wayne Hemingway commented: “I am thrilled to be a part of such an exciting event which celebrates the very brightest Northern design businesses.”

The judging for the Northern Design Awards has historically been overseen by a respected panel of judges, all of whom are experts in their fields. Last year’s panel features Linda Barker, George Clarke of BBC’s ‘Restoration Man’ and ‘Amazing Spaces’, Wayne Hemingway, Nick Munro and Jan Constantine.

They were joined on the judging panel by HRH Princess Katarina and internationally renowned designer, George Bond, plus the influential Alison Vance and Noel Farrer.

This year, George Clarke will be joining the judging panel on stage to present the lucky winners with their awards.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Titanic Hotel at Liverpool’s Stanley Dock on Friday 30th October, with the Liverpool finalists vying to put the city firmly on the design map!
