To The Manor (Greasby) born, very well-bred with a rich heritage

The Manor

The Manor occupies an impressive space at a vantage point over Greasby, Wirral. This 17th century building has been transformed, whilst retaining its Grade II listed building integrity. The mission was to combine local heritage with contemporary hospitality. The result is something quite stunning. The Nelson family have an enviable record with their family owned collection of individual hotels and inns, including the renowned Grosvenor Pulford Hotel and Spa. The food at The Manor is delicious and the atmosphere is decidedly warm and friendly.

With a date-stone of 1680, the venue has a storied local history, serving as a farmhouse for many years. Known to the local community as a bank and then a restaurant, it lies at the centre of a thriving community.

We admired what very much looked like an original beam in an exquisitely decorated small entrance, dining room. You can glide seamlessly between the new extension and the original building. You can ‘wend’ your way to the wedding and events barn, complete with gallery, beautiful decor and fabulous lighting. You might not have anticipated getting married, no definite plans. Once you appreciate the beauty of this space with its own stylish bar, with well stocked outside courtyard accessible in the warmer months , you may change your mind. It awaken the inner romantic somehow.

The Manor, one

We chatted to a rather stylish middle aged man at the launch, who was planning his second marriage to his childhood sweetheart. They had both been previously married and then found each other again, after their marriages ended. He had fallen in love with the wedding barn. He was thrilled to have found that special place for the love match that meant so much.

The cuisine is gastropub-inspired fayre that comes with in spirit of great hospitality. It is relaxed, refined dining in cosy surroundings. We admired the interior design: warm brick décor, combined with classic William Morris fabrics and wall-paper. We were awed by the beautiful original paintings and Victorian photographs. Add to all of this a wrap-around bar, with marble counter and a state of the art, large kitchen area with wood-stone oven, and hopefully this sketches in the scope and ambition.

The main event is the food. We sampled: fish and chips (miniature version of the real thing), vegan burgers, beef-burgers and fish-cakes. The vegan burgers were my favourite. They are comprised of: Portobello mushroom, baby spinach, chickpea, coriander and Goma mayonnaise (Japanese inspired with sesame paste, soy, rice vinegar and Japanese soup stock). It is the attention to detail that impresses.

There are small plates, pizzas, sea bass, crispy duck and Caesar salad, amongst many other tempting dishes, including steak and gorgeous burgers. Desserts include: lime cheesecake, glazed lemon tart, brownies and Manor sundae. This is definitely an occasion destination and yet the prices are reasonable. Savour and enjoy. You can make any day an occasion.
