A NORTH WEST DESIGNER WILL HOST THE FIRST EVER COUTURE FASHION SHOW IN THE THEATRICAL SETTING OF CHESTER’S ANCIENT CATHEDRAL.
Matthew O’Brien, 26, will celebrate the first birthday of his highly successful studio-cum-store in Rufus Court with the show on Friday, March 10, from 7pm.
Matthew said: “There are so few fashion events in Chester, and across the North West and we really want our first birthday show to mark the start of a really exciting new era for fashion in the region.”
Tickets are selling fast for the event which will feature more than 15 models who will stride down the ancient aisles in the cathedral’s famous South Transept in front of more than 200 VIPs, press and guests.
Matthew has been given special permission by cathedral heads to host the event which will be held to also raise funds for the Baby Grow Appeal at the Countess of Chester Hospital, as well as Meningitis Research Foundation – charities close to Matthew’s heart.
“Before I was born, my uncle Matthew died from meningitis and I was named after him,” he added.
“My family have also had a lot of young members who have been cared for at the Special Baby Unit at the Countess so it felt right that both of these charities would benefit in some way from the show.”
Matthew, who has shown at London Fashion Week, won coveted fashion awards and has featured on Fashion One TV, returned home to Chester after studying under some of the worlds best designers and at Istituto Marangoni.
Matthew has a strong eye for detail and focuses on structure and shape, along with the use of unconventional fabrics. Taking a keen interest in print design his latest collection exhibits sharp monochrome prints with highlights of colour against the sharp angular forms created on the body.
Among his accolades, Matthew has been recognised by Vogue Italia as a “talent to watch” and the show will feature some of his most exciting sample pieces of his bespoke work.
“I am passionate about good design and creating the right look and fit for my clients,” said Matthew, “and I know my latest collection will certainly have the wow factor against the backdrop of the stunning setting. I cannot wait to unveil it to my guests.”
Local footwear, jewellery, accessories, make-up and hair businesses have all joined to support the event which will also feature live entertainment, a raffle, goody bags, prosecco and drinks followed by an after show event hosted by Opera Bar and Grill, on Pepper Street Chester.
