Autumn Fashion

THERE’S SOMETHING PARTICULARLY SATISFYING ABOUT SEEING ALL OF THE NEW SEASON ESSENTIALS LANDING IN YOUR FAVOURITE STORES.

Suddenly you can’t move for coats in opulent textures and every shopping trip seems to involve checking out boots (which suddenly become essential to almost every outfit as temperatures drop). Here’s the His & Hers guide to the handful of autumn fashion staples which will see you through to the New Year in style.

Boots

Colder days and darker mornings call for emergency stop-offs at our favourite coffee shops. But there’s nothing more demoralising than taking a hard-earned Pret break only to return to your desk with very cold, very wet feet. That’s why, in between working hard to bring you quality content (of course!) we can mainly be found googling women’s boots this season. One of our favourites for winter boot inspiration is the surprisingly affordable Uppersole. They sell a broad range of boots, many of which you can snap up and still have change from £30. This is perfect for this time of year, when the life of boots and umbrellas can sometimes be cut short by particularly ferocious weather. We like these low heel stretch Chelsea ankle boots – they’re perfect for when you need to cover some serious mileage in style, and as an added bonus, they’re just £19.99.

Coats

For those days when you really can’t bear to emerge from under your duvet, the good news is that for autumn/winter 2017, you don’t really need to. As the team at Vogue noted, with quilting emerging as a big trend for coats this season, the puffa jacket is back and, ahem, bigger than ever (* Vogue may not have used those exact words. Unlike His & Hers, we suspect they’re probably too cool for coat-related puns!) What they did say is: “Rewrite the duvet day: the puffa jacket shows no signs of waning, but it’s the refined quilted shapes we’re looking at now. See Chanel, Altuzzara, Preen, Coach and Stella McCartney’s regal homepage for details.” In their pick of the 10 best puffa jackets, you’ll find both bold, statement looks and more wearable, everyday options.

Blouses

OK, we know that technically blouses never really went away, but if you give them a chance, they’ll be one of your wardrobe hero pieces for the season ahead. For those times when you don’t know whether one drink might become several, or whether you’ll summon the energy to go out after work, or what the heck ‘smart casual’ really means on that Christmas party invite, this season’s sleek blouses have you covered. Smart enough to take you from day to night, but not so smart that you look like you’re trying too hard, the high-street is bursting with blouses that’ll do the hard yards on those occasions that don’t quite call for breaking out your Oscars-worthy evening dress. Plus, as the temperatures begin to dip, sometimes we really do appreciate wardrobe staples that make you feel smart and polished while keeping your arms warm!
