REGULAR READERS MAY HAVE NOTICED THAT WE CAN NEVER RESIST CONTEMPORARY FASHION WITH A NOD TO THE 1950S. NO SURPRISE, THEN, THAT WE’VE HAD OUR HEADS TURNED BY THIS ’50S STYLE SHOOT FROM OLIVIA MAY.

All of the pictures were taken on our doorstep at the Lady Lever Art Gallery and we can’t quite decide whether they make us yearn to be back there soaking up some culture, or shopping the Olivia May range for everything featured in the shoot. Happily with a long weekend ahead, there’s time for both!

What the Olivia May team say about the shoot:

So let’s go back to the 1950’s era when fashion involved glamorous shapes, classic silhouettes, tailored style & femininity! One designer who is heavily influenced by this era is Les Filles D’ailleurs. With this all in mind, Olivia May were very lucky to find a local art gallery that was showcasing a fabulous exhibition called ‘Model Image’. Lady Lever Art Gallery featured one particular model within the ‘Model Image’ exhibition, named June Duncan. Following her life story in the fashion industry, they knew it would be a perfect place to capture images of today’s styling compared to those pieces designed in the 1950’s.

What we say:

Occasionally fashion brands reference the 1950s with a heavy hand, creating pieces that would be hard to wear for summer 2018. However, Olivia May has referenced one of our favourite fashion eras really cleverly, combining the refinement and elegance of that post-war era with a modern eye for design.
