Fine dining is still a thing: same food, different destination in the Liverpool region

Site hopping, I was on a mission to find restaurants that are still doing takeaway and/or delivery. We wanted to be able to recommend these eateries from experience.  Inevitably there were more than a few pangs of nostalgia. I pondered on the spectacular Christ the redeemer, Rio de Janeiro mural, at Maluco Pizzeria. I can remember  sampling vegan pizzas with my son, until, delicious though they were, we could eat no more. Stephi LaReine, fashion, travel and music blogger, sat opposite, obviously seriously researching the pizza and pasta elements and enjoying the experience.

WORDS: Jean Hill

I miss Bold Street Coffee, with their inspirational community hub, with exhibitions that fascinate and are thought provoking. That reminded me of an interview with the young owner of East River, as he explained his New York diner concept (realised in Allerton) that incorporates fine Jewish heritage dishes with diverse cosmopolitan fare. His chefs are young yet incredibly talented.

Enough, we can still enjoy all of this at home. And it is a great way to support our favourite restaurants in such a challenging time. Hospitality will be back to brighten our lives sometime soon. In the meantime…

Maluco, Pizzeria, Castle Street

Maluco

If you like the idea of pizza with that Brazilian flair, this is for you. Rodízio is an all-you-can-eat style of restaurant service in Brazilian restaurants. Maluco make delicious vegan pizza, but that is but a part of their offering. The pizza dough has the wow factor, and the toppings are beyond ingenious and delicious. Online ordering: check delivery times.

Bold Street Coffee

Bold Street Coffee

Normally Bold Street Coffee would be a hub and a centre for locally inspired exhibitions. Ain’t No Time To Hate’ was inspired by the life of Anthony Walker, and his sister Dominique’s  memory of her brother. For now we need to settle for coffee, but the choice is infinite. The sheer dedication in finding the best coffee beans is impressive and celebrating the diversity, aroma and taste are all for our benefit. So takeaway a coffee and savour the flavour.

East River

East River

Manhattan inspired cocktails can be delivered to your door. All the bottle needs is a little shake: and it’s good to glug. The food is inspired by the cuisine of New York’s lower east side, with more than a soupçon of Jewish influence (think something like chicken soup with Matzo dumplings). Delivery via Deliveroo or Uber Eats. Check out the web-site.

Abel & Cole deliver on their organic promise

If you get excited over organic vegetable boxes (brimming with goodness), or mini mince pies that come at a discount, this is for you. And me: I just spotted organic Cypriot halloumi. The meat comes from high welfare farms, which is good to know. And you can ‘build’ your own vegetable box (contents therein).
