REGULAR READERS MAY HAVE SPOTTED THAT WHILE WE OBSESS JUST AS MUCH AS EVER OVER FASHION AND BEAUTY HERE AT HIS & HERS HQ (AND FRANKLY THAT’S A LOT OF OBSESSING!) WE’VE BEEN GETTING MORE AND MORE EXCITED ABOUT COSYING UP OUR HOME IN RECENT YEARS.
Yes, we’re still on the hunt for the ultimate nighttime skincare, but now we know that we’ll appreciate it so much more before sliding under freshly washed bed-linen. Also, if you’re partial to a bit of bedtime reading, or the occasional hard-earned Netflix binge, or any kind of sofa-based relaxation, getting your lighting right turns out to be weirdly important.
If you have harsh overhead lighting and no dimmers, it can be difficult to create the relaxed evening ambience that makes cosying up on the sofa in your PJs feel like a proper everyday indulgence. Plus, if said cosying up happens to involve tucking into a chocolate bar, I’d personally rather feast in the glow of soft lighting, rather than the unforgiving glare of my living room’s halogens!
For some reason, I’ve always thought of floor lamps as quite a grown-up purchase, as they take a bit more thought than your usual bedside lamps and light-shades, which tend to be added into your trolley as a bit of an afterthought in Ikea.
They’re worth it for the way they’ll give your living room the softest of glows, and help set the scene for some very well deserved relaxation before you head to bed, though. Of course there are countless options, but if you want to avoid analysis paralysis and whittle down the options, I’d highly recommend paying a visit to the Utility website, or to their store on Bold Street.
As the one-time editor of an interior design magazine, I can be a bit of an interiors geek, and have had a mental wish list of lighting I’d love but cannot yet afford for years! However, I still tend to spot options that I wouldn’t have thought of at Utility.
Just as Justine at Cricket knows how to fit the key fashion and accessory trends into a small amount of space, the team at Utility are clearly so obsessed with contemporary design that virtually all of the floor lighting on their site will add instant cool to virtually any living room.
Personally, I’m a bit smitten with the Floss K Tribe if you’re looking for a modern option, or the Hay Cast Floor Lamp if you’re blending vintage and contemporary styles. Erm, is anyone else suddenly feeling inspired to start earning more money in order to do some serious shopping for the home, or is that just me?!
We’re really proud to bring you this feature in association with Utility, one of the North West’s best-loved design retailers. For related features, please pay a visit to our interiors page.
