IF YOU’VE BEEN WORKING ON YOUR HOME, YOU’VE PROBABLY STARTED WITH THE BASICS, CREATING YOUR DREAM BATHROOM AND KITCHEN AND FINDING A COLOUR SCHEME THAT CREATES A COSY, WELCOMING VIBE.
The His & Hers team loves a big project like this, starting with a world of Pinterest inspiration and then working on your scheme until you have a room worthy of relaxing in at the end of a long day at your desk.
However, sometimes when magazines like ours focus on whole home or room makeovers, we neglect to mention the powerful effect that simple tweaks and updates can have.
So if the bare bones of your home are just the way you want them, but you still aren’t feeling all that excited when you walk through the door, here are a few simple tips for making your house feel like a home again.
Adding the finishing touches:
Invest in a simple and stylish console table, which will provide the perfect place to display a few of your favourite accessories. Also, if you’re always losing your keys, making it a rule to drop them on the console table as you come through the door could save you a lot of heartache when you’re getting ready for work in a hurry in the mornings!
Move things around. Psychologists say that if you don’t move your pictures around, you’ll eventually stop noticing them, so try to move your favourite photographs and wall art round every few months so that the pictures you love will catch your eye again and make you smile, just like they did when you first put them out on display.
Treat yourself to some flowers. Yes, it may feel a bit indulgent, but having freshly cut flowers in a room makes a surprisingly big difference. They’ll make a disproportionate difference to the space for as little as £5 and your eye will keep being drawn to them. Sometimes the little every day luxuries are the best ones!
And finally, why not spoil yourself with some lovely fresh bed linen. Curling up in bed will suddenly feel a lot more enticing and this has got to be one of the easiest ways to update the look of your bedroom.
