AS WE HEAD INTO SPRING, THE HIS & HERS TEAM HAS BEEN PLANNING SOME SIMPLE INTERIOR DESIGN UPDATES TO KEEP THINGS LOOKING FRESH.
We know this is the time of year when most magazines will run features on how you can give your home a whole new look for spring simply by updating your cushions, throws, candles and maybe investing in some new wall art.
And of course we welcome any excuse to treat ourselves to some new Jo Malone London candles. However, sometimes if you really want to make your home feel more welcoming, this calls for more than new accessories!
In my days as an interiors editor, I used to tell anyone who’d listen that I believed that lighting was one of the most crucial and underrated aspects of any interior design scheme. And nothing’s happened to change my mind since then.
If you’re looking for some lighting design inspiration and don’t want to invest in the same Arco Floor Lamp and Tom Dixon ceiling light as everyone else (because no matter how beautiful they are, sometimes it’s nice to see something new) I’d recommend checking out Studio Artzen.
Studio Arntzen is run by Dutch designer Paula Arntzen. Besides her lighting design interest Arntzen has a strong fascination with furniture design.
I’m personally smitten with this Butterfly lamp shade (pictured below) which is made from translucent paper, which gives it a really delicate feel, which seems only appropriate when you’re evoking fragile, wafer thin butterfly wings.
And for a broader range of options, the design light shop features a range of finely crafted ceiling lights, with prices ranging from €86,00 for ‘Trias’, a small pendulum light, through to €2 200,00 for the Plus Grande Trianon (both pictured below).
Innovatively, lighting designer Paula Arntzen mixes her craft skills with design, and a delicate use of technology, as communicative components of wonder.
Key to Paula Arntzen’s design philosophy is her critical view and desire to push the boundaries of design and her stylistic research. Through experimentation with materials and techniques she creates experiences with their own distinctive theatrical identity.
If you’ve been waiting to bring your home to life with creative lighting design and don’t want to fall back on the same old names in lighting design, His & Hers would recommend Paula Arntzen as someone who has a fresh, innovative approach and is crafting beautifully made lighting to suit most budgets. Yes, we’d love to have the budget for a big bespoke piece, but it’s nice to know that we can afford her simpler ceiling lights in the meantime without breaking the budget.
Paula states: “We complete dynamic projects from concept to final production for individuals, businesses, design labels, and for events interested in engaging with unique environments.” So if you’re looking for a fresh and original lighting scheme for your home (or maybe even for your business of for a big event you’re organising), hers is a name worth remembering.
We’ll be posting again soon with more of our design obsessions. In the meantime, here’s the link to the website: https://www.studioarntzen.com/
