HIS & HERS TAKES A LOOK AT SOME SERIOUSLY INDULGENT TRAVEL OPTIONS FOR A LUXURY UK BREAK…
The United Kingdom may be small but it boasts some of the best views, the most interesting history, and the most hospitable people you will ever meet. This extends, unsurprisingly, to its hotels. Whether you are looking to go on a city break or a relaxing retreat to the countryside, the UK will not disappoint in either range or quality.
The best of London
The Shangri-La Hotel: ‘Shangri-La Suite’
Situated at the top of London’s iconic ‘Shard’ building, this suite is the jewel in the crown of this world-famous hotel company’s UK branch. Featuring unbelievable skyline views, a marble-clad bathroom, heated floors, state-of-the-art technology and climate control, this hotel, and this suite, in particular, is the definition of luxury. It would, on average, set you back £10,000 per night.
The Ritz: ‘The Prince of Wales Suite’
The name of this hotel brings forth images of opulence and grandeur of times gone by, and it lives up to that name. Situated in St James’s, this hotel has excellent views of the beautiful Green Park and many different types of room for whatever your needs may be. The Prince of Wales Suite, a 3 bedroom penthouse, is perfect for larger groups or longer-stay guests thanks to its large size and fully fitted kitchen, along with more amenities than you could hope for. It costs upwards of £4475 per night but will make you feel like royalty, and treat you just as well. The Ritz Club was also the site of a handful of big roulette wins in 2005, which, according to the Telegraph, managed to bag billionaire Phillip Green around £3 million. But, as Lottoland pointed out in a recent article, it doesn’t always work to analyse past wins, so don’t expect to return home a millionaire!
Countryside retreats
Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons
This 15th-century Oxfordshire manor house famously belongs to world-renowned chef Raymond Blanc and is a haven for anyone who appreciates fine dining. The garden one-bedroom suites cost £1780 per night and are individually designed, encapsulating both French and British style. Perfect for couples or individual travellers who wish to experience the delightful serenity of the English countryside and exquisite food, Belmond is charming and luxurious in equal measure.
Inverlochy Castle Hotel
Situated in Fort William’s in the Scottish Highlands, this castle was a favourite of Queen Victoria herself, who said that she “never saw a lovelier or more romantic spot”. With rooms from £445 and suites from £650 per night, there are plenty of options and all of them include bed and breakfast. The castle itself is located at the foot of Ben Nevis and is surrounded by a ring of highland peaks – the views are breathtaking and inspire a sense of calm. There are also many guided tours and trips deeper into the mountains if you wish to get closer to nature.
