His & Hers explores Maya Blue Wellness, a subterranean spa at the Titanic Hotel

There is a hidden treasure beneath the Stanley Dock. The catacombs beneath the Titanic Hotel, reveal a beautiful subterranean spa. Maya Blue Wellness is a place for rejuvenation, relaxation and life-enhancing treatments. The beautiful aquamarine hydrotherapy pool radiates calm and peace. Romanesque brick arches enfold. We were embarking on an adventure of discovery in the capable hands of highly skilled professional therapists. We were there to experience and review ESPA beauty treatments and products. ESPA is the best of British. Their products are used in luxury spas all around the globe.

We needed to pre-book our treatments. Once in the spa, we had a sense of peace, and something akin to gliding through rose petals. We cast off the cares of the day, and considered the concept of individual care, personalised treatments and wellness.

ESPA is on a mission. Theirs is a holistic philosophy, with a focus on creating natural skincare products. Their aim is to deliver both instant benefits and protect the long term health and beauty of the skin. ESPA work with skincare specialists such as dermatologists, biochemists and aroma-therapists to achieve best results.

Once we had changed into robes and flip-flops, we relaxed in the Thermal Suite with access to sauna, steam room and samarium. We were collected by smiling therapists. I had opted for a facial and it turned out there were several options: inner beauty, or optimal skin health, or intense regenerating. Mine is patchy mature skin. The first task was to identify dryness and problem areas using high-tech equipment. The therapist explained about signature treatments and products matched to individual needs. The whole process was intricate and intense. I came away with Optimal Skin ProCleanser, which is 3-in-1 cleanser, exfoliator and mask. I thought it was a really good investment. I loved the deep cleansing: and the sensation of a hot flannel to refresh before the next procedure. The aromatherapeutic oils were wonderfully soothing. Whilst the mask was working its magic, I enjoyed a head massage. The moisturiser glided onto my skin, and felt beautifully light and hydrating.

There are express treatments; body massages, day packages and accommodation packages. ‘Time to escape’ from £290 per room, includes overnight stay, three course dinner from Docker’s menu, and full English breakfast. ESPA Essentials facial, back, neck and shoulder massage with access to the Thermal Suite, all included in this package.

Maya Blue Beauty offers waxing and tinting, luxury manicure, pedicure and spray tanning. ESPA Essential facial treatments range from £75 to £90. Body massage treatments start at £75. Our verdict: we loved it all. It was probably the most intensive, thorough facial I have ever enjoyed. I was breathing more easily in my skin, and that did generate a feeling of well-being. And my face had absorbed moisture and it radiated a healthy, unclogged glow. It is a wonderful way to destress at the end of the day, and invest in your well-being.
