Sunday roast

The team at The Watering Can have announced the much anticipated ‘Return of the Roast’ and they’re opening booking lines even earlier this year (from 15th October through to spring 2024) due to popular demand for their legendary Sunday Roasts.

The stunning venue nestled in the idyllic surroundings of Greenbank Park has become a destination venue for a traditional roast with all the trimmings with customers booking weeks in advance to secure a table.

As in previous years, the team at the Watering Can have been inundated with requests for the ‘Return of the Roast’ which has been lovingly referred to as being ‘as good as ya ma’s’ by many regulars on social media and this year they are offering a mouth-watering two-course menu for £26 per person.

The new menu is packed full of flavours using locally sourced suppliers for fruit and vegetables and starters include a wide choice of dishes including: Cold smoked salmon, mini chicken tikka skewers and pan fried prawns

Main dishes include free-range chicken supreme, pork and caramelised leek stuffing and Yorkshire pudding, 28-day aged roast rump of beef and Yorkshire pudding or the ever popular field mushroom, butter bean and mixed nut roast.  All of these options are served with roast potatoes, maple syrup and thyme roasted carrots, broccoli and kale and either meat or vegetable home-made gravy.

Alternatively, you can enjoy a lamb rump with buttery colcannon mash, peas and pancetta and mint flavoured gravy, or black lentil and vegetable dahl, spinach, coconut served with a chapati. A selection of  tasty sides are available to accompany the Sunday Roasts including The Watering Can’s famous truffle cauliflower cheese.

This year also sees the addition of a selection of tastebud tantalising home-made desserts including a traditional sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream and honeycomb, a flavoursome peach apple, cinnamon crumble with vegan custard, or a tangy lemon curd tart, Italian meringue and candied flowers.

Why not make the most of your Sunday by sampling some of the new aperitifs on offer or a boozy coffee?

Owner Keith Perryman said: “Our Sunday Roasts are incredibly popular, with our customers travelling from miles away to enjoy them. Since the beginning of September, customers have been asking when they are returning and our ‘Roast Reservation Hotline’, as the staff affectionately call it, is busier than ever before.”

With only two more Sundays to go, places are filling fast and early booking is highly recommended. Get your table booked from Sunday 15th October for a roast ‘as good as ya ma’s.’
