The Manchester of today is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city, which is rich in diverse cultures. For those lucky enough to have visited the Distillery, it will bring to mind entrepreneurial effort. This combines with warmth of welcome, passion for progression, innovation and celebration.
There were three rivers; the Irwell, Irk and Medlock. And this is the source of inspiration for Manchester’s Three Rivers gin. The Distillery is located on Red Bank, in the shadow of Angel Meadow in the heart of the city. The first distillery and award-winning interactive ‘Gin Experience’ was an exhilarating, educational experience with perks. Visitors have a unique opportunity to appreciate and participate in the gin renaissance.
As a visitor you can expect to tour the distillery. I learnt about the often illustrious, sometimes dark and intriguing history of gin. This includes an understanding of how gin’s diverse flavours are concocted. During the tour I was offered four complimentary drinks, from G&T’s to classic cocktails. I remained alert and paid close attention. Finally I was sat in front of ‘my very own’ mini copper pot still. And encouraged to create a personalised bottle of gin to take home!
It was a fascinating experience, and such a fun thing to do leading up to Christmas. I took expert advice from the tour guide and Charlie Hooson-Sykes ‘Gin Fuelled Bluestocking’. So my personalised gin took shape. In the mix: rose petals, elderflower, vanilla, oats and a smidge of star anise. It is just possible that this will become an epic blend! I learnt a good deal. And it is definitely something to celebrate and enjoy. Totally recommend it.
