IF YOU’RE FEELING STUCK IN A RUT, SOMETIMES SHAKING UP YOUR ROUTINE CAN BE THE FASTEST WAY TO BOOST YOUR HAPPINESS AND CONFIDENCE LEVELS.
Here at His & Hers, we’re big believers in the power of making small daily changes to your routine to boost your mood. So while other bloggers are going hard or going home, you’ll find us happily indulging in some easy yoga stretching at the end of the day, or carving out some time to read a good book, or simply enjoying a gentle stroll to shake off the stresses of the working day.
We know that there are lots of small tweaks that we can all make to our daily habits that’ll ultimately add up to feeling happier and healthier overall. However, every once in a while, no matter how much you love your life, and no matter how hard you work at making every day feel special, a sense of restlessness can kick in.
So if you’re finding it hard to relax and enjoy your favourite series, or to switch off at the end of the day, maybe it’s worth biting the bullet and treating yourself to a complete change of scenery. Traditionally, we’ve tended to associate holidays with pure indulgence, giving us a hard-earned break from the daily grind.
However, from bloggers’ retreats to yoga breaks to boot camps, short breaks can potentially help us to unlock our potential, meaning that we head home feeling healthier and happier than when we left.
Even if you’re opting for a traditional holiday based around eating, drinking and soaking up the sunshine, rather than ‘self improvement’, you’ll probably still find that taking some time away from your usual environment gives you a fresh sense of perspective.
Also, if you tend to suffer from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) it can be very difficult to adjust to the darker evenings and lack on sunshine in the daytime at this time of year. So booking an overseas break in autumn could be the perfect way to top up your Vitamin D levels and boost your mood.
And if you needed one more reason to start saving for a break, it’s worth remembering that there’s a lot of scientific research (including a new study from San Francisco University) stating that spending money on experiences, rather than things, will ultimately make you happier.
Now we think about it, the His & Hers team may have made a few late night online purchases we regret, but we’ve never once regretted booking a holiday.
If this post has inspired you to book a break (or if you’ve already organised your next holiday) we’d love to hear about your plans. Please tell us where you’re heading, or share your recommendations in the comments section below.
