At His & Hers we are dreaming of a ‘White Christmas’: ‘Where the treetops glisten and children listen to hear sleigh bells in the snow…And may all your Christmases be white.’
WORDS: Jean Hill
I’m totally on board with the concept of a ‘White Star Christmas’. It is a festive extravaganza, and we enjoyed a sneak preview at Titanic Hotel, Liverpool. We were greeted with Prosecco and carol singers. A heady mix, with the talented Toni James Band waiting in the wings. They perform classic hits: a great live band adds a vibrant swing. The carol singers returned in larger numbers, as they tend to do. It was a great choir, with impressive harmonies, and there’s something about Christmas carols…
Dress code is dress to impress, or put on the glad rags and frocks or just your party best. The dinner menu started with tomato soup with basil, or goat’s cheese and pear salad, with beetroot and fruit chutney. All delicious: the goat’s cheese was both divinely creamy and substantially delicious. The mains came: roast turkey breast or spiced butternut squash risotto cakes. I was reliably informed that the tomato ragu was particularly fine. The turkey breast, with pigs in blankets, was rich, tender, tasty and generous. Cranberry sauce and savoury gravy added sparkle. The chocolate and clementine tart was lovely: the chocolate is very rich, and the pastry is desirably flaky. The Christmas pudding came with light smooth tasting, tipsy rum custard.
The Rum Warehouse offers Christmas Party Nights for small parties or larger parties. White star centre pieces sparkle amongst crisp white linen, and prices start from £50 per person. There will be exclusive hire party nights in the West Bay and Mezzanine overlooking the Stanley Dock. The minimum number is one hundred for West Bay and Mezzanine. Check on numbers for the Rum Warehouse. There are drinks’ packages delivered to your table, and last years’ revellers praised the helpful, hard-working team, the service and staff to the max.
On a smaller scale Titanic is offering family (or friends) Christmas lunch, with half portions for children. The Christmas Day offering begins with Laurent Perrier Champagne, followed by a glorious four course Christmas lunch. Confit duck and fillet of pork Wellington, are to be found in the mix, amongst more traditional fare. We have just spotted apple and rhubarb crumble, with rum raisin ice cream. Feeling the love.
There is Boxing Day, still to come. You may be feeling a little beer battered at this stage of the party season. Fear not, beer battered fish and chips or traditional roast beef, or treacle and five spiced glazed gammon will put the stuffing back into you. Oh and there is sticky toffee pudding; famous and delicious cure for any hangover. The climax, will, naturally, be New Year’s Eve, that comes with drinks’ reception, gala dinner, entertainment and champagne, and fireworks over the dock at midnight.
Check for dates from Thursday 5th December until Saturday 21st December (Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings). Exclusive hire dates for West Bay and Mezzanine are limited in availability, so you need to check this out.
