WHEN IT COMES TO CELEBRITY HOBBIES, FEW ARE MORE INTERESTING AND REWARDING THAN HORSE RIDING. OF COURSE, CELEBRITIES ENJOYING HORSE RIDING IS NOTHING NEW, BUT IT IS FASCINATING TO THINK THAT THESE CELEBS TAKE TIME OUT OF THEIR BUSY SCHEDULES TO RETURN TO NATURE AND TAKE CARE OF THEIR BELOVED HORSES. HERE, WE’VE FOUND FIVE CELEBRITIES WHO LOVE THEIR HORSES AND HORSE RIDING ALMOST AS MUCH AS THEIR CAREERS.

Lady Gaga

During in an interview for V Magazine earlier this year, Lady Gaga revealed that she received a horse from her record label when she first moved to California. Although the American singer had never had a horse-riding lesson in her life, Gaga climbed on to her horse Arabella and rode her bareback with ease. Arabella was so well-trained that Gaga decided to get her a companion and now owns a stallion called Trigger. “With him, I have to ride with a saddle,” Gaga explained in the interview. “When I ride him, it always makes me feel so powerful, because he is so powerful. There’s no pressure. I just get on the horse and go.”

Zara Phillips

For centuries, the Royal family has been heavily invested in horse riding and none more so than Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter Zara Phillips. Anyone who has ever watched the equestrian events at the Olympics will of course know this, as Phillips has won various medals at the games at other events including the European Eventing Championship and the World Equestrian Games, and often receives great odds from horse racing betting oddsmakers due to her incredible skill.

Madonna

Fans of Madonna are sure to remember the singer taking up horse riding while married to Guy Ritchie, as the two lived out in the country at the British film director’s Wiltshire estate. The world-renowned singer trained with both William Fox-Pitt and Daisy Trayford to become a flawless rider, and while her love for Ritchie and England dwindled the horses have stayed with Madonna. In fact, she made headlines earlier this year for entering her 59th birthday party in Italy on horseback while wearing a plunging gown.

Julia Roberts

While most of us have only ever seen Julia Roberts on a horse at the end of Runaway Bride, when Roberts and Richard Gere ride into the sunset, the American actress actually enjoys horse riding in real life. Unlike most other celebrities with equestrian interests, Roberts actually learnt how to ride in childhood. Now, she enjoys racing horses around plastic barrels on her New Mexico ranch as well as documenting horses around the world. She has even created a documentary titled Wild Horses of Mongolia having studied the nomadic people and their horses.

Mary-Kate Olsen

The Olsen twins have acquired many talents over the years since they first appeared on the hit series Full House as children. Mary-Kate, for instance, is an actress, fashion designer, author, entrepreneur, businesswoman and a successful horse rider. Unlike most other celebrities with horses, Mary-Kate even competes in jumping horse shows such as New York’s Hampton Classic Horse Show alongside other celebrities including Georgina Bloomberg and Jessica Springsteen.

Of course, these aren’t the only celebrities who love horse riding. Leona Lewis, Katie Price, Linda Blair, Viggo Mortenson and Shania Twain are just some of the other famous faces who adore their equestrian companions. If you know of any others, please let us know in the comments below.
