It may be something of a cliché, but the start of a new year really can provide the perfect opportunity to take stock of your life and your home and work out what’s still serving you and what you’d like to shake up a little.
For many, this means thinking about whether your bathroom or kitchen is still a pleasure to spend time in, or whether it’s time to make a few changes. Before you’re back at your desk and rushed off your feet, this is the perfect time of year to flick through a few interior design magazines or pay a visit to a site like Bathroom Luxuries, which features a broad range of styles (and several luxury baths which His & Hers is a tad obsessed with!) for inspiration.
As well as doing this kind of research online, it’s also worth taking stock of what you love and hate about your current bathroom and really thinking about how you’d like to use the space. For example, if you love to spend time in the shower and never pour yourself a bath, you may want to use more of the space available for a generously proportioned shower, or even turn your bathroom into a wet room to create a space you’ll really enjoy using. Alternatively, if a long bath is your idea of heaven, you may want to allocate more of your bathroom budget to treating yourself to a beautifully designed bath, and making this the focal point of the room, because you know you’ll appreciate the investment every time you use it.
Once you’ve created your dream bathroom, it could be worth taking a look at all of the bathroom accessories we usually ignore and deciding whether it’s time to make a few well-timed updates. For example, are your bathroom towels looking a little worn? If so, treating yourself to a set of fluffy new towels shouldn’t cost much, but will add a little touch of hotel-style luxury to your bathroom.
Also, if your bathroom has become a dumping ground for all your skincare, body treatments and products that you’ve long-since stopped using, simply sitting down and throwing away anything that you no longer need or want will instantly make the space look tidier and more welcoming. Also, when you’ve decided exactly what you want to keep, you’ll know whether investing in some more bathroom storage could be worthwhile.
Then, with all of the hard work out of the way, His & Hers always welcomes any excuse to treat yourself to a fancy hand wash and light a scented candle or two, ready to start enjoying your new bathroom.
